Biography

"Heather's voice has the delicacy of an angel, the power of a soul diva, the swing of a jazzer and the playfulness of a popstress." - Panos Panay, Founder, Sonicbids

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Heather was raised in Dallas, Texas by her New York City native mother and Ohio native father. Heather left her Southern roots to head west toward California in the summer of 2000, after a year long post-graduation European backpacking adventure.

Heather worked for a San Francisco based Advertising firm during the Dot-com boom and fall. At which time, she chose to leave her cushy salary, cubicle, and 401K, to roll the sparkling dice toward her teenage dream of becoming a legendary singer, songwriter and performer. Since then, she has never looked back.

Heather performed consistently in the San Francisco Bay Area over the last five years with special appearances in New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Austin, TX and Milan, Italy. A San Francisco Bay Area transplant, Heather is actively performing in Los Angeles, her new home.

*Performance Highlights*

Heather was awarded "2006 Song of The Year" for the West Coast Songwriter's International Song Competition. Her original composition entitled "Sense of Me", won first place and was produced and co-written with legendary songwriter Bonnie Hayes (Bonnie Raitt) and cellist and songwriter, Matthew Schoening.

In the summer of 2006, Heather had the incredible opportunity of opening up for Fiona Apple at The Concord Pavilion in Concord, California, and for Tori Amos in the fall 2005.

Heather has co-written, recorded and been produced by Bonnie Hayes (Bonnie Raitt) and Narada Michael Walden (Jeff Beck, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston). She has opened for The Salvador Santana Band, Ledisi, Maria Muldaur, Dan Hicks and Jorge Santana. Heather has also performed at the legendary South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX and for The San Francisco International Film Festival.

Heather had the extreme privilege of performing one of her original songs, "Live on Through Me", for the New York Fire Department at Ground Zero in New York on September 11, 2004.

For two years, Heather performed with the World-Renowned, San Francisco Glide Ensemble Gospel Choir, home to Cecil William's Glide Church.

Lyrics

Sense of Me

Written By: Heather Lauren, Bonnie Hayes, Matthew Schoening

My story is a mystery
Always felt like an oddity
But I've been on an odyssey
To try to get a sense of me

I bloomed late in the bibleland
Swimming pools and minivans
Beauty queens on heroine
And I couldn't get a sense of me

And I'm lost and everything seems like a sign
I might be crazy, I know that I'm blind
All I can do is feel my way to where I need to be
All I want is to write my own reality
And get a sense of me
Gotta get a sense of me

I jumped the white picket fence
Burned the map and headed west
Got nowhere and got there fast
Looking for a sense of me

Eat my rent just to survive
Eat my life with the 9 to 5
I'm still paying for my freedom ride
Still missing a sense of me

And I'm lost and everything seems like a sign
I might be crazy, I know that I'm blind
All I can do is feel my way to where I need to be
All I want is to own my originality
And get a sense of me
I gotta get a sense of me

My story happens out of time
It doesn't move in a straight line
It doesn't have a little neon sign
Saying happy ending here

This song ends in the present tense
In the long hot summer of my discontent
As I trade in my innocence to begin to make a sense of me

And I'm lost and everything seems like a sign
I might be crazy, I know that I'm blind
All I can do is feel my way to where I need to be
All I got is my individuality
And a sense of me
I'm getting a sense of me
And a sense of me
Gotta get a sense of me

All I can do is feel my way to where I need to be
(To get a sense of me)
All I can do is feel my way toward who I want to be
(To get a sense of me)
My story is a mystery
I'm getting a sense of me

Set List

Originals and covers...
(2) 45 min. sets of material for live shows

I enjoy performing other artist's music, in addition to my own, as I see it as a way of paying homage to those who paved a way before me.

Some of these amazing artists are Bonnie Raitt, Alana Davis, Ani DiFranco, Eva Cassidy, Tori Amos, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Jeff Buckley, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, and of course Frank Sinatra.
