"2006 BEST LOCAL ROOTS ACT: Heather Rose & The Drama"

Although her beloved StereoBirds crash-landed last year, Heather Rose is back and ready to bring the Drama, so to speak. “2005 was a horrible year for me, everything ended,” Rose concedes, “and 2006 is a rebirth.” Rose has been a fixture here at BMP headquarters. In 2004 she took honors for Best Female Vocalist, and Best Song in 2005 for the heart-wrenching “Here Again,” a tribute to the victims of the Station fire. So what’s left to conquer ’round here? “I want us to win the No Longer Local act, because it’s the next logical step,” Rose declares. “The StereoBirds were there so I know what it feels like. I just have to start over. I’ve paid my dues and proven that I can hold my own. I think the local scene respects that.” From what we’ve heard thus far, selling the Drama shouldn’t be a problem. With TJ Morris on bass, Jared Marcus behind the kit, Johnny Ronci on keys, and a particularly impressive Marlie Wenseth on lead guitar, Rose is ready for more. “My songs finally sound the way I envisioned them in my head. I wanted to hear the honesty of Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville team up with the eclectic Belly’s Star.” Serious expectations, but pick up the first single, “Celebrate” from the tentatively titled full-length debut Bring It! It’s a super-catchy power-pop number that just might transport you back to the summer of ’93. HR & the Drama will wrap up the anticipated debut and plan to show their roots on a small southern tour in late summer. Meanwhile, Rose will be playing out solo, opening for Zox on June 28 at the Newport Music Festival. Info available at HeatherRoseRocks.com.

"Winner of BEST SONG "Here Again" Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll 2005"

A Gentle Fury:

"Just wanna throw my head up to the sky
Look back on the moments that I've memorized
Let the fear go from within
and feel you here again.
I can feel you here again"

Best Local Song goes to the StereoBirds for the majestic gem "Here Again," a gorgeous track that tackles the still-stinging subject of the Station tragedy. Everyone knows someone who lost someone on February 20, 2003, and it seems almost unfathomable that more than two years have already passed us by. "Here Again" coasts with gentle yet defined acoustic picking while the track boasts guest appearances by Elizabeth Steen (of Fritter fame) and resident indie godmother Tanya Donelly. "The StereoBirds, along with so many other caring bands, took the time to play as many benefit shows as time permitted. So when we were asked by Tanya Donelly to play a show for a friend she lost, we didn't hesitate to sign on," recalls StereoBirds lead vocalist Heather Rose. "Tanya was close with a guy named Nick O'Neill [who died in the fire], an actor and musician and, from what I hear, an amazing guy in general. So as Nick's benefit show approached, I started to take my sadness, numbness, confusion out on my guitar - and what was left when I placed it back in its case was a song. I wrote 'Here Again,' honestly, to heal a bit myself, but also to reach out to the people hurt by this tragedy and let them know others are feeling just like them." Achingly beautiful with an ethereal, almost gentle fury, "Here Again" is a song made to be remembered. The StereoBirds' latest release, American Girls, American Boys, is slated for a summer release, and in the meantime stop by www.thestereobirds.com for upcoming shows and info. - Providence Phoenix

"[heather’s drama]"

The Goddess Show seems to be having a youth movement this year, and it wouldn’t be a party without Heather Rose & The Drama. Heather had some success as a teen with The Stereobirds, getting alternative radio play and recording with Tanya Donnelly. Since becoming a 20-something, Heather has grown into one of the area’s finest vocalists – bar none – performing both solo and with her fledgling band “The Drama.” She brings country twang and a hard-rockin’ stage presence. She digs a good punchy rock song and woeful country lyrics. Keep going.....

The Goddess Show: A Celebration of Women in Music – a major Pride fundraiser – returns to the Hi Hat at Davol Square Sunday, April 15, with headliner SONiA & disappear fear, and a mix of local divas. Providence’s premier all-women’s show of the year.

FYI: In this context, "fledgling" is a clever little play on Heather being a former Bird. StereoBird that is!

Fledgling - A young bird that has grown the feathers needed to fly and is capable of surviving outside the nest.

"WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT US!"

“Heather Rose & the Drama is one of a handful of acts you feel really has a shot at the big time. We're excited that their career is taking off! The band has the kind of work ethic needed in today's music industry for success. The audience was mesmerized watching them open for Jack's Mannequin at the 10th annual Snapple Sunset Music Festival in Newport, RI.”
- Al Salzillo, Festival Booking Snapple Sunset Music Fest

“Heather Rose and The Drama’s performance at the Block Island Music Festival left the crowd dazzled! The energy of their live show was what really put them over the top as one of the standouts of the whole festival”-Marc Scortino, Director of the
Block Island Music Festival

“Over the last few years, Heather and the boys have been polishing their act to a brilliant shine, writing better tunes with each successive effort and showing that they have guts enough to earn the glory they rightfully deserve.”
-Bob Gulla,
The Providence Phoenix

“Heather is getting the recognition she deserves for an exquisite voice, and of course her relentless hard work. She paid her dues and this was a good call by the public to vote her Alt-Rock’s Best Female Vocalist.”-Jim Vickers, Motif Magazine

"Heather Rose is an honest performer, a rarity in today's world of machined ready-for-sale music that dominates so much of the mainstream. When you hear her sing, you will immediately feel that what she's singing is real. The energy and soul she brings as a performer will keep you coming back to her live shows, and her melodic hooks will keep you singing her songs for days."

BIO FOLLOWED BY AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS:

When the ten year run of Providence, Rhode Island’s award winning touring rock act The StrereoBirds (formerly The MockingBirds) came to an end in 2005, it didn’t stop lead singer Heather Rose! She switched gears and performed as a singer-songwriter.

In no time, Heather was playing high profile gigs such as The Newport Sunset Festival, Coors Light Maxim Model Search, and The RI Pride Fest. She also opened for Zox, and State Radio at the famous Strand (Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel), and played to a SOLD OUT crowd when she opened for Mike Doughty of Soul Coughing.

Winner of 4 Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll Awards, including BEST FEMALE VOCALIST and BEST SONG: "Here Again", and last years' BEST ROOTS ACT, Heather Rose's melodic, magnetic vocals follow in the tradition of Sheryl Crow, Liz Phair, and Aimee Mann. Her lyrics, according to the Northeast Performer are, "…clever and honest and her delivery is pure energy". Boston's The Noise, where Heather took home Best Female Singer in 2001 states she "…has a stage presence that transcends genre. She can sing sweetly or lustily, scream righteously, and draw the audience in. Her songs are folky, gently twangy, and lovely. (And catchy!)".

Heather Rose continues to play at great singer-songwriter venues such as Stone Soup in Pawtucket, RI and get noticed throughout New England for her unique songwriting style. Heather stands out amongst the thousands of female guitarists who are carbon copies of artists that have already crafted their sound. Heather Rose sounds like Heather Rose and that’s what draws her growing fan base in!

An increasingly successful solo career brought forth yet another chapter in Heather Rose’s rockumentary:

Created to “move the orchestra in my head onto a stage”, HEATHER ROSE AND THE DRAMA are the only area band that combine SIX MUSICAL GENRES (Rock, Pop, Americana, Blues, Funk, & Jazz) to create a new flavor of rock music all their own! Joined by Ian Conway (lead guitarist), T.J. Morris (bass), and Andy Tarter (drums) who bring influences of blues, funk, and jazz into the mix, Heather Rose and The Drama provide the vehicle for a all of Heather’s vocal stylings: wailing rock anthems, slower pop ballads, heartfelt twang-filled tales and of course Heather’s trademark break-up tunes that come in all forms!

Most recently (2007), she has been nominated for BEST FEMALE VOCALIST in the 2 biggest entertainment papers in the area: The Providence Phoenix’s Best Music Poll and Motif Magazine’s Music Awards (where she was nominated for 4 awards in 2006). She has also been selected to perform at this year’s BLOCK ISLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL this summer, The 2007 Goddess Show local headliner AND her band was chosen as the Alternate Band in 95.5 FM WBRU’s Rock Hunt! That means out of over 300 entries, Heather placed at #9!

Heather Rose can be seen rocking up and down the East coast accompanied by The Drama or hitting the stage solo acoustic style, performing the high energy-rock-pop set that gets everyone's attention. Heather's quirky interpretation of rock supplies tongue-in-cheek pop to make you think, feel and move.
