Bio

Heavy fingers were created in 1993 and have been considered a reference in the French saxophonist circles ever since. For the last fifteen years they have been playing all over France, in the festival de Vienne, in Jazz à Vannes, but also in le Casino de Paris, la Comedia, l’Olympia and in cultural centers. They have met a great success in Switzerland, Morocco, Belgium and very soon, in Great Britain, Japan and Mexico. They learn music at the "conservatoire de Lyon" together and since then, they always play together as one saxophone. They wanted to make and play jazz together and it's what they have done.Besides their own concerts, they have had important encounters and musical experiences; they have stood out as a section within the Lyon Jazz Orchestra, the Op Cit ensemble and on the compositions of Laurent Cugny and Martial Solal. Their skill with their instruments and their experiences as musicians has led them to perform in various contexts and to accompany musicians such as Benny Golson, Alain Deboissat, Pierre Drevet… But also, Maxime Leforestier, Maurane, Mickael Jones or Temptations. For several years they have created musical shows such as “JAMM” and “Pierre and the Loup” (performed in le Festival d’Avignon since 2005), and accompanied the comic Marc Jolivet on his shows “comic symphonique”.For a couple of years, Heavy Fingers Quartet have become a Sextet when they invited Christophe Gauvert and his double bass, and Hervé Humbert and his drums to join them. They thus created a most original group. The dense and powerful sound of the saxophone part, the fluidity and the tone of the different instruments offer to the group extraordinary possibilities of arrangements and orchestration. The concert they offer is based on personal compositions and on arrangements of Coltrane’s, Parker’s and Shorter’s themes. It is varied, mingling complex arrangements, rousing improvisations and flights of melodies… Best is to listen to them. Arnaud Jourdy soprano saxophone
Manuel Fillat Baritone Saxophone, Maxime Curtelin Alto saxophone, Jacques Ponthus Ténor saxophone, Hervé Humbert drumms, Christophe Gauvert double bass.
