"5 Random Questions with Hectors Revenge"

Five Random Questions with
Hectors Revenge
by Katie Westfall

Hypnotically seductive vocals, well balanced tracks, exploding choruses, impressive and dramatic electric and bass guitar, this band is what you'd get if indie rock's Cursive had a one night stand with Tool. Influences aside, Hectors Revenge is the real deal.
Featured on 103.7 San Diego (97.1 Free Fm Los Angeles) on the Frosty, Heidi and Frank show, this hard rock band proved it has definite radio appeal. Appearing on "Should I Stay or Should I Go," a segment of the show in which callers decide whether local bands should quit their musical pursuits or not, Hectors Revenge received a unanimous decision to "stay." An impressive seven out of seven callers encouraged them to keep on rocking.
With hard rock blasting in the background and a beer freshly poured by a bartender with a mohawk spewing dreads, I caught up with these guys before a show at OB's Dream Street Live.

Q: Who is Hector and what is his best form of revenge?
a: In Greek mythology, Hector was a Trojan prince and one of the greatest fighters in the Trojan War...to make a long story short, to us Hector represents a brave and chivalrous spirit whose best form of revenge is awareness.
Q: Who would your Trojan horse be intended for?
a: The Oval Office.
Q: Favorite Local Venue?
a: Probably have to say Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach.
Q: Describe your music as an acid trip.
a: Out of control, but grounded in reality.
Q: So, what's the message?
a: As musicians, our product is our music. Some songs are about addiction, some are about politics. We even have a song about the INXS singer who died from auto-erotic asphyxiation. Basically, there is no single message and not everything is supposed to be taken literally. Whether our music inspires one person or a million people to form their own opinions and think on their own, then our job is validated.

Hectors Revenge will be battling in the Emergenza Music Festival San Diego Semifinals at 8:30 p.m. on March 29 at Brick by Brick (1130 Buenos Avenue, 92110). Votes will be counted at the event, so come show your support for this local band. For a taste of Hectors Revenge go to their website, www.hectorsrevenge.com.
The band would like to thank Loren Laguens and Scott Sorenson with Dragon Alliance, Ivan Smith with Skater Socks, Bob and Rick with Mitsven Surfboards, and Scott Desi with Adio Shoes for all their help and support. - Surfshot Magazine

"Hectors Revenge Moves On To the San Diego Emergenza Battle of the Bands Finals"

Hectors Revenge Moves On To the San Diego Emergenza Battle of the Bands Finals.
Last night was truly an amazing experience. Brick by Brick hosted the Emergenza Music Festival's San Diego Semi-Finals. After 9 solid performances by some kick ass bands, two of which would advance to the San Diego Finals...the results came in...Hectors Revenge 1st place 94 votes and Decompression 2nd place 58 votes.
First thing that comes to my mind at that moment...gratitude. We could never have made it this far without the support and votes from our Families, Friends and Fans. To have people who take the time out of their busy work week to come out and support local music and Hectors Revenge makes me realize how lucky we really are. Your support is giving us the opportunity to get our music heard.
So, whats next? Well the San Diego Finals are to be held at 4th & B Downtown San Diego sometime in June. I'll keep everyone informed as soon as I know the exact date and time, believe me. That show is going to be so awesome. We definately need to call upon everyone one more time to come out and help us get to the regional finals in Los Angeles.

Until next time, thanks again and rock on.

Perfect weather, endless beaches, and taking first place in the local "Battle of the Bands"... Again(!) is fine, but the true objective of this grunge-tinged, alternative rock explosion is to write and perform music that stays with the audience long after the initial experience is over - Songs and a live show that invoke one to mentally grab a black Sharpie with which to scrawl "Do Not Erase." With this in mind, "If we inspire one...two...or a million people to go out and create something positive with the experience from hearing us, then we expect each of them to at least buy a high quality Hectors Revenge tee shirt..."

Perfect weather and endless beaches are fine, but avoiding categorical pigeonholing, the San Diego based band recently completed the recording of a self-titled EP and are currently printing more tee shirts...Let someone else win the local "Battle of the Bands."
