Bio

What has become Helden began in April 2004 when Guitarists Kody and Nathan began collaborating on some ideas during their free time. After meeting Tariq at a show Kody and Nathan decided to make their side project into a band, when Tariq was on drums the band began to take shape. Going under the name Holden, the band wrote three original songs and recruited Martin to play bass in late May. Having only been together 4 weeks, Holden went to Edmonton's own Blackbox Studios and recorded their first demo CD in early June. The three song demo consisted of voiceless rough versions of "Optimism is key here", "Stand and deliver", and "More in Sorrow than in anger". The demo began to catch the attention of local promoters and Holden began playing shows at the end of June. During the summer months the group continued to perform and searched for a full time vocalist which proved unsuccessful as they were unable to find a singer that suited the music. When the time came for the band to leave for Vancouver to record their debut EP the decision was made to impower Martin as the full time singer. The EP was recorded over 3 days in Vancouver at Hive Studios with legendary producer/engineer Jesse Gander. While in Vancouver the decision to change the bands name to Helden occured due to legal issues. The band returned to Edmonton with a new name and a solid EP entitled "these bleeding screams" to unleash on the public. The EP proved to be a complex blend of metal and progressive styles, thus defining the sound of Helden. In December of 2004 Terry joined the band and the lineup was complete. The EP was released on December 18, 2004 and has defined Helden as one of the upand coming metal acts in Alberta. The band is now playing shows throughout Edmonton and Alberta to promote the EP as well as writing new material to be recorded in December 2005 when the band will return to the studio to record their first full length. Ultimately, what you hear is blend of 5 dedicated, driven, and ambitious musicians trying to create a new style of metal. Bridging the gap between 80's thrash and powermetal to today's modern hardcore and black metal, Helden is the newest trend in alberta metal.
