Biography

Helen & the Sirens are an all female band fronting original alternative pop material. Their music is a direct result of classical meets band. It’s hedonistic, tribal, choral and poetic. It’s moving, sexy, feminine and strong. These girls are the voice of a demographic not represented in popular music today. In this world of ‘quick fix’ music, Helen & the Sirens is behind and for the thinking woman and man.

Finalists in the International Songwriting Competition 2012, Helen & the Sirens are beginning to cuase a stir in the music world. Between them they have played at Koko, Proud, Roundhouse Studios, 12 Bar, Barfly, The Great Escape Festival, SXSW Texas, Latitude and supported Mumford & Sons, My Brightest Diamond, Ladyhawke and Alessi’s ark to name a few. Helen has recorded at Abbey Road studios and played live for BBC London Live Sessions and leant her composition and musical talents to the likes of Diana Vickers and Lucinda Bell.

100 Year Old Woman

Written By: Helen Greenham

100 Year Old Woman

My words are chimneys in a row,
Made up of dust and ordered stone.
My eyes are broken china cups,
Caught on an oldened sepia film

And when I chance to dream,
I am walking down the yellow brick road agaain,
The cottton's sewn back through the seams,
Of the simple linen dress that you first kissed me in.

My thoughts are like the rusty railways track,
Trains I don't understand fly past.
My hair the cufflinks of a gent,
Each strand his gentle, courteous bend.

And when I chance....

And through it all,
I hear an angel call and I am shaking.
Here I am, a broken apple in the ground.

My ambitions are a solitary red,
Flaked off a long forgotten bed.
My breath a tiny, fragile key,
Still searching for its broken lock.

And when I chance..

And though it all, I hear an angel calling me.
And through it all, I hear an angel calling me.
And every colour here is vivid and there's fire in my soul and I'm running and my hair is free and I'm laughing and you're here.

Robot Girl Robot Boy

You switched off your heart,
Like a piece of machinary,
and the funny thing is,
this heardened heart opened to you a bit

This is such a boring love song,
do I talk about how much it hurts?
Nah that would be crass
And these pouting lips won't utter that.

Robot Girl Robot Boy X 3

It would never have worked I see,
we deserve better than you and me,
you'd have made me feel bad,
and I'd make you angry.

And I will be fine.
Joke and smoke and laugh so hard the whole room hears me,
I'm always ok,
I just keep on walking and walking and walking and walking and walking....

Gold

Written By: Helen Greenham

The Roses, stemmed from your mind.
Are ruby red and dripping with madness.
Your shoulders your shoulders more loaded than mine.

And if you shake them you move to the silence.
Stan til they break and you're far from the silence.
You're loud loud loud.

They won't love you forever.
They won't love you forever.
Just because you are bathed in bathed in.
And transient gold.
They won't love you forever.
They won't love you forever.
Just beacuse you are bathed in bathed in... Gold.

Pray silence for you prey for silence in your mind.
Tread gently love, you're a product of.. madness.
Roll over roll over roll while you've a little time.

Gold.

Pray for you bed instead.
Pray for your bed instead.
Prey silence for your nasty soul, prey silence for the heavy goal you place inside me.
When you talk, when you laugh, when you smile.

I won't love you forever.
I won't love you forever.
Just because you are bathed in bathed in.
A transient gold.
I won't love you forever.
I won't love you forever.
Just because you are bathed in bathed in... Gold.

Down Down Down

Written By: Helen Greenham

Tell me your name.
Tell me your story.
Have you been on the game?
Were you a little bit naughty?
Who are friends? And are they all dirty?
Are you meeting the end?
And if I met your mind would it sound something like this?

£6000. One hundred babies.
You in a crowd. Could I call you a lady?
If I spun you round and round, and gave you a tickle.
Would you knock me out?
For being so fickle if you did I'd just think.

Ya ya ya ya yaaaa.

Raise me up into a perfect world then drag me
Down down down. Please drag me
Down down down.

Raise me up into a perfect world then drag me
Down down down. Please drag me
Down down down.

A handful of grit. A portion of patience.
Bury your wit. Please appear to be gracious.
Now glue your tear ducts down. You've got to stay pretty.
Tighten your belt. Now loosen it quickly when you do you must think ya ya ya ya yaaa.

Raise me up into a perfect world then drag me
Down down down. Please drag me
Down down down.
Raise me up into a perfect world then drag me
Down down down. Please drag me
we're going we're going down.

Loosen your belt....

Four Pennies for a Chorus

Written By: Helen Greenham

Which of us bends to the greatest degree?
Right beside me is my comfort and in front there lies a legacy
Save me a pearl of the girl that was me.
Hide her softly in the universe beyond my reach that I may weep.

Four pennies for a chorus. Trials of many men before us.
And lean into it.

Push for some height push push hard for the fans.
Plump the melodies to sooth but let the lyrics stand the lyrics stand.

Higher, higher, higher...

Take my hand. And place it in the chorus.
Try me on. Trials of many men before us.
Ignite my soul. And lean into it.
Take my hand. And place it in the chorus.
Try me on. Trials of many men before us.
Ignite my soul. And lean into it.

I am Zoe. I am zoe. I am zoe and I'm a secretary.
I am Zoe, I'm a secretary. I am Zoe and I'm a secretary.

I'm Lydia, I'm Lydia, I'm Lydia and I teach people.
I'm Lydia, Im lydia, And I touch people and I teach people.

Dear true love, stretch those wings I tied so neatly.
One strong day. I'll release you.

A Medley of Hits That Never Were

Written By: Helen Greenham

You let me float like a butterfly.. fluttering by.
I'm happiest when we talk. Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk talk talk talk.
Place this in a mobile phone advert. Please.
Place this in a mobile phone advert.

The dancing dove the smiling dog, this is the kind of crud this tune reminds me of.
I'll smash it down it makes me sick. Rebuild it with some better bricks.
Pick up your glowing bands and push them to your ageing hands.
Fortify the withered strands, attached to your youth..

Can you hear we're in the 80's?
These chords akin to Freddie Mercury's?
And I'll walk you through ti graciously..as I can.
If you'll hold my hand. If you'll hold my hand.

Hello? Is this how you thought it would be?
Hello? Glued together by monotony?
And I'm far too young to ask you these questions.
But is this how you thought it would be?

This is it, here's the one that everyone knows.
Throw your hands up high. Let your majesty show.
We've come so far. I hope you have a little to say.
I'm making anthemic strides to throw nostalgia your way.

I like this one the most, I like this one the most.
That's why I'm staying here, That's why I'm staying here.

Let you majesty show, Let you majesty show.
