Helium Fuse: A rise from the ashes of death, dysfunction and crimes committed against them.

It isn’t just Helium Fuse’s vast sonic scope, tommygun beats, and boarde- line madhouse arrangements that make them who they are. It’s the band's finesse. Like their rock mentors, Helium Fuse employs a guitar style that commands attention: driving the sound without drowning it out, exploring vibrant colors and gripping subtleties. Guitarist Jimmy Peace fosters the group with a unique understanding of the guitar and the recording studio as an instrument in itself. Like Omar Rodriguez, Tom Morello, David Gilmour, and Steve Howe, Peace has a reason for every bit of gain, feedback, delay, and ambient noise that he incorporates.

Peace and singer Andy Greenleaf are also fascinated by the soundscapes of progressive rock and dream pop, giving way to synth injections and soaring vocals across their work. Inspired by Bjork, Sigur Ros, and Pink Floyd, Helium Fuse inlays a spectrum of ambient textures over their rock foundation, uplifted by drummer Walt Zel. But this new sound was born in a troubled turbulent past.

In 2005, Peace was on a tightrope. He’d spent years touring and doing session work for top major and independent artists (NIN, Radiohead, Linkin Park, etc.). But when he lost his bassist and long-time friend to suicide, his band was spun into chaos. To make matters worse he was still recovering from losing gear in a studio break-in. The offender turned out to be a close acquaintance and Peace was even forced to clear his own name. Times were tough.

But in 2009, he answered a request from friend and former bandmate, Zel. Zel was sessioning outside Chicago and had recommended Peace as producer for a struggling studio project. It was here that they met Greenleaf, hired as a songwriter. Immediately, Greenleaf was impressed with Peace's multi-dimensional style, and in their off time over Zel high-geared rhythms, the three caught fire.

But fate refused to go easy on them. When they discovered the studio had no plans to pay them, Greenleaf headed overseas. Peace and Zel, however, wereset on putting a group together and in early 2010 called him back to the states. Determined to hand out some sonic payback, they united officially as Helium Fuse.

Tragic Johsons arrival upon Helium Fuse was the natural evolution of the already storied and hard-fought musicial journey. Seeking refuge from the whirlwind of youthful dysfunction his salvation was music. As a multi instrumentalist Tragic garnered a successful indie career with his solo work and Zel. Fate came into play when Jimmy asked Tragic to reunite with Zel and join Helium Fuse.

The band is constantly exploiting their sound, recording in their personal studio and entertaining crowds online and in person. Their dynamic performance is proof of their genuine passion for music and leaves interpretation up to the listener. Thus far, those interpretations have been supportive. Experience Helium Fuse, the escape without the bubblegum wrapper.
