We’re suckers for a good Lost reference, so when we stumbled across a band named Henry Gale while skipping through the fields of MySpace, we approached their music with the same cautious optimism any Lost fan accords another on first meeting. It paid off: these guys are good. Like many post-rock bands, Henry Gale (an instrumental four-piece specializing in post-rocky bombast à la Explosions in the Sky or our own Common Cold) just love guitars that veer between twinkling loopage and soaring textures. Unlike many post-rock bands, they don’t take forever getting to the part that rocks, they do it from the get-go. - The Boston Phoenix
For obvious reasons, the post-rock section of my music library isn’t one that I often break out when having a few drinks with friends. Henry Gale’s debut 5 track EP Other Voices is an album that seems to do its damndest to break that mold — almost reaching through the confines of my headphones to mingle throughout the room and meet new people.
When instrumental post-rock is done correctly it really is hard to ignore no matter how jaded one might be on the genre. Henry Gale certainly have the formula down but there are subtle variations to the band’s sound that make them seem like a different breed. - Sound As Language
