Our Story So Far…
Henway as it exists today came into being in early 2002, but the band wasn’t so much formed as it was grown. Individuals and pairs of artists who were already making music on their own in 2001 found each other, shared ideas, and just generally started having a good time. Some turnover was inevitable but the band held together and evolved further as new faces joined the fold, until what finally emerged from the basement in late 2002 was a broad and eclectic mix of influences, from R.E.M. to Led Zeppelin to the Beatles, from Johnny Cash to Lenny Kravitz. Their continually growing list of original material ranges from pure driving guitar rock to transcendent acoustic pieces complete with lush vocal harmonies, with nods to folk roots, funk rhythms and even a few jazz chords for good measure, founded on solid, intelligent songwriting and contributions from every member of the band.
Henway spent the first third of 2003 playing to appreciative audiences in Toronto’s local bar scene, culminating in a spirited performance to a capacity crowd at the Festa 2003 benefit concert in April. Riding their live success and eager to capture their sound, Henway retreated to the studio, and spent the balance of the year recording their debut independent CD, “Unreel”. Released just in time for the holidays, Unreel has begun making its way into CD players around the GTA and beyond, and so the word continues to spread…
Presently brushing up their chops after their long break from the stage, Henway is poised to re-emerge onto the live scene for another round of good times and good music.
