Coyote Curve

Written By: Herby Hayes

Coyote Curve
By Herby Hayes
A7-E-E7
Chorus:
E A7
Make 90 daddy, hold the line, now don't you swerve,
B7 A7
Keep it out of the ditch, don't miss that switch,
C D E
We're coming up on Coyote Curve.
E A7
Hold fast to the wheel now, judge the grade and check the play,
B7 A7
If we lose this load all the tears you'd cry,
C D E
won't return all the money we'd made.

E A7
1. When I was a young child, growing up straight and strong of arm,
B7 A7 C D E
I remember the days when we'd work and play growing up on grandpa's farm.
E A7
High up on the hilltop, where the air's so fresh and clear,
B7 A7
we'd gather 'round to pick and bring the fruit down
C D E
all my friends and family so dear.

E A7
2. We'd load up the flatbeds, 3 bins high and 4 bins long,
B7 A7
then we'd make our way before the heat of the day
C D E
just to bring that sweet fruit home.
E A7
Barreling down from the mountain top, jamming gears and holding fast,
B7 A7 C D E
Barely touching the brake as we rode the Snake, never needing to touch the gas.

E A7
3. No matter how you drove it you held on by the seat of your pants,
B7 A7 C D E
that old flatbed Chevy would howl and moan while the load would sway and dance.
E A7
Rolling into the last curve we'd be praying with knuckles white,
B7 A7 C D E
sailing into the clear you could hear us cheer hallelujah with all our might.

Bridge
B
Look out down the road up ahead,
A7
we're coming in hard, bringing fruit for the shed.
C7
All our hopes and dreams for this year
D E
are strapped on the back and I'm shifting gears.

E-E7 B7-A7 A7-G7 E-E7
......Make 90 daddy, make 90 daddy, make 90 daddy.

This song was composed while driving back from Mearlefest 25 in 2011.

The Front Porch Guard

The Front Porch Guard By Herby Hayes
Chorus
G Em G Em
The Front Porch Guard, they do their job, day to day to keep the watch.
G Em G Em
Their faces change as time plays its part, but the circle never stops.
C D C Am D G Em G
Day to day, they recall the years and night to night they cry their tears, but the front porch guard, they do their job.

G Em G E G Em G Em
1. When I was a younger man, around 16 years of age. I worked my first day in the mill, down in Schoolfield, VA.
G Em G Em G Em G E
It seemed like the thing to do, no doubt was in my mind, cause my father and his father too had all done their time.
C D C D G Em G Em
Working hard from day to day, just make ends meet. And as the night fell we all would pray the Lord our souls to keep.

2. I met my wife when I was 21, she was just 18. We were married in the summer sun, our first child came in the spring.
Though we only had a four room house, it never was too small. 3 boys, 2 girls and a mom and dad, plenty of room for all.
Hand me downs were as good as new and pinto beans made great beef stew.
And the booger man would sure get you, going to the johnny late at night.

3. Grandma says you come home now, cause the cornbreads in the stove.
Pour the iced tea and pass that fried chicken around a leg and breast and all the rest, don't you know.
And bring on the asparagus and fried chicken feet to make all the young girls cute.
Don't you worry child, you'll get enough to eat. Grandmas baked a cake just for you.
Sunday afternoons were the best. Time for family, time for rest. Time to know life's at its best, spent with the ones you love.

You Kissed Me Like That
by Herby Hayes
D A G D
Oh the mountains I'd climb, the oceans I'd swim
D A Bm G
The deserts that I'd cross, it's true,
D A G D
all pale when compared to the things that I'd do
Em Bm A
for one true love's kiss from you,
Em Bm A Asus2 A
oh and what would I do if each time that you kissed me,
D
you kissed me like that.

D A G D
1.Well a man can travel in search of a dream,
D G A
and not find it his whole life through,
D A G D
but the good Lord above has shown His grace true
G Bm A
and wrapped all my dreams around you.

D A G D
2. Your smile is my sunshine, your tears are my rain,
D G A
your laughter is my laughter too.
D A G D
For all that you are, our tomorrows, todays,
G Bm A G Bm A
your love gives me strength, renewed, for all the great things I will do..

D A G D
3. Your kiss is the fullness of warm summer days,
D G A
the sweetness of honey and dew,
D A G D
the lilting caress of a gentle spring breeze,
G Bm A
no one else's thrills and calms like yours do,
G Bm A
Believe me when I say to you...

This song is to say to Cindy that I love her on Valentines Day 2013. She can touch me and kiss me in a way that both thrills and calms me at the same time. I wrote this 02-06-13.
