Bio
Heroes of Toolik was founded by Arad Evans and Ted Ferguson. Trip Kyle and Matt Hunter joined soon after. The band was completed with the addition of meta-trombonist Peter Zummo in the spring of 2011. The Heroes have been preaching their genre-scrambling brand of art/pop/indie/ new/country/metal to New York area audiences since. Tunes, guitars and vocals are by Arad. Ted pulls glassine sounds from an accordion. Matt--bass and Trip--drums spill out a "unique stew of riffs" (The Aquarian 10/21/11). Up-town contemporary music associations include The New Music Consort, Milton Babbitt and the S.E.M. Ensemble. Over the years, the players have been heard on series such as BAM Next Wave, Lincoln Center's Serious Fun, San Francisco Symphony's New and Unusual, Bang On A Can, and in venues from Lincoln Center to CBGBs and throughout the world. The tunes are unusual but rock in their own way. Heroes of Toolik have been gigging actively throughout the NY area and their live performances are gathering momentum through word-of-mouth. An album is in the works for release in early 2012, recorded and produced by Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth/Helmut) at The Kennel Studios in Brooklyn. Music and full member bios are on the website, www.heroesoftoolik.com.
