Hey Marco!

Hey Marco!

BandPopAdult Contemporary

A good way to describe Hey Marco is Steely Dan on steroids. We use sophisticated harmonies, but play out like a rock band. I've heard our music described as "Yacht Rock." I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but I kind of like the name.

Biography

Hey Marco specializes in great popular music from the 70's, 80's, 90, and now. We cover artists from Michael Jackson, Steely Dan, Al Green and Marvin Gaye, to Peter Gabriel, Billy Joel, Nikka Costa, Justin Timberlake, John Mayer, and many more. In addition to that, we maintain a substantial repertoire of great original tunes in various musical styles. Marco was founded in the spring of 2007 by a group of ex-members of Shades of Blue, a vocal and instrumental jazz ensemble at the Grand Rapids Community College. Our experience with Shades under the direction of Duane Davis has driven all of us to hold very high standards of musical excellence. Each band member brings his unique musical background, tastes and experience into the mix, and what comes out is a hard-driving, soulful sound with a touch of smooth jazz. A sound that can only be Marco.

The Perfect One

Written By: Mark Jackson

Looking all around, all up and down, turning every stone
Frantic in a panic, missing the romantic nights when I’m alone
Trying some-a-this, some-a-that, some things that I maybe shouldn’t try
While I’m searching for the perfect one that I may never find

Looking all around, all up and down, every day and night
Many broken hearts, I’m sorry but I’m only trying to get it right
No need to pretend that love will never end, it happens all the time
We’re all searching for the perfect one who we are meant to find

Looking for the perfect one, the one you can believe in
Looking for the perfect one, find everything you need in
Looking for the perfect one, the one that’ll keep you warm at night
The one you can turn to the one that’ll treat you right

Looking all around, all up and down, checking every door
What could be inside may dazzle your eyes, it’s too good to ignore
More dissatisfaction, never any action, someone tell me why
Why am I searching for the perfect one who’s only in my mind

Looking for the perfect one, the one you can believe in
Looking for the perfect one, find everything you need in
Looking for the perfect one, the one that’ll keep you warm at night
The one you can turn to the one that’ll treat you right

Looking all around, all up and down, deep inside your soul
And to your surprise you’re seeing with new eyes, you’ve known it all along
Funny how things turn, sometimes it’s hard to learn to start with letter “I”
While you’re searching for your perfect one, remember to look inside

Revolution

Written By: Mark Jackson/Cary Shields

Normal life's become a convolution
Come and be a part of the solution
And the world is never gonna be the same
It's no time for empty allocution
Looking for a new kind of solution
From now on it's a brand new ball game
When you are driven by a thing you can't explain
When you#########
When you're convictions only cause you toil and pain
When you wake up and find the world has gone insane
Revolution, people talking bout a revolution
Revolution, hear them calling out a revoulution
Revolution, been too long without a revolution
Revolution, so we're gonna sprout a revolution
Working to reverse the dissolution
Taking up the art of elocution
Calling all aboard this gravy train
Here is my intended perlocution
Everybody part of the solution
Then we celebrate with fine champagne
When everything you ####
When everything you love the others find profane
When everything you have's a struggle to maintain
Then you must find a higher level to attain
Revolution, hear the bells a chiming revolution
Revolution, this is perfect timing revolution
Revolution, we're not talking miming revolution
Revolution, it's an up and climbing revolution
Hey everybody, get on board
Uh, uh you can't ignore
People talking bout a revolution
Hear them calling out a revolution
Get on up, come on out
That's what it's all about
People talking bout a revolution
Hear them calling out a revolution
When you look within for revolution
That's when you begin your revolution

Coke and Lime Back

Written By: Mark Jackson

I was out late again
It's just before ten in the morn
And I don't recall when
Or how I got this party horn
Somebody had a good time
Jameson with coke and lime
Mmhmm, mmhmm
As I stumble in
And head toward the bath down the hall
To pay for my sin
And fall asleep against the wall
I wish I hadn't had such a good time
With Jameson and Coke and lime
Sweet dreams, sweet dreams
I wake up in bed
My head is begining to pound
The world's tinted red
But at least it's not spinning around
Sometimes I have too good a time
With Jameson and Coke and lime
Jameson with Coke and lime

Rain

Written By: Mark Jackson

I don't want to speculate
Sit around and ruminate
Everytime I take the bait
All the while you make me wait
You know it would be really great
If I didn't have to wait
In the middle of the pouring rain
But oh how I love you
And oh how I want you in my life
I really need to separate
Give in and accept my fate
Though I cannot really say that
I believe that it's too late
I've already opened the gate
So I let my feelings permeate
While I'm out here in the pouring rain
But oh how I love you
And oh how I want you in my life
In the middle of the pouring rain
I wait for you and I'll remain
In the middle of the pouring rain
I love you babe, I love you babe
If I could communicate
One chance to negotiate
I could make you moderate
And maybe even consecrate
Until then I anticipate
The day that I don't have to wait
In the middle of the pouring rain
But oh how I love you
And oh how I want you in my life

Betty Jane

Written By: Mark Jackson

Betty Jane is insane
She does things that you would
Never imagine could ever be done
She went down into town
Right down to the river
Took all her clothes off right there in the sun
Nobody pays Betty Jane too much attention
Better to leave well enough alone
See, Betty Jane knew the secret
All of us would give every penny we had to know
doot doot doot doot doot doot doot doot
Betty plays the game
She makes up the rules as she goes along
Doesn't matter who plays
Knock her down she'll rebound
Get back up and smile
And be more outrageous next time around
Cuz Betty Jane found the secret
No one else would ever imagine could ever be found
It seems so simple to Betty
It's just Betty Jane knows the secret to happiness
doot doot doot doot.....
Betty Jane is quite sane
It is we how are crazy running around trying to fix everything
Can't relax must attack everything that's different
We've got to learn just to let it be
Now and again we do get it right
But not often, only our Betty has that kind of luck
She knows the secret to happiness
It's no secret, old Betty Jane
Doesn't give a f-doobee, doobee....

When I wake up everyday
All my troubled dreams just melt away
Not a word you have to say
Just a little smile and a look my way
When I wake up next to you
I could view the morning sun, but I don't have to
Cuz you take up all my view
And if there's one thing in my heart that I know is true
I'm gonna continue to love you
Oh, I know sometimes we fight
But you gotta know inside that we're alright
Listen honey, don't lose sight
You're the one I cling to everynight
When I lay down next to you
Doesn't matter what was wrong, its just me and you
And no other, only two
In spite of all our ups and downs , what it comes down to
Is I'm gonna continue to love you

Waiting

Written By: Mark Jackson

You said I made you happy
I filled a space inside
You said you'd found the one you wanted
That you were satisfied
We'd spend all day together
Nothing could keep us apart
And I was so alarmed when I woke up this morning with a broken heart
I truely believed you and I were meant to be, that everything was right
And I still believe that you're mine, and it'll all be fine
So I thought, well I'll just give it some time
So I waited and I waited and I waited some more
And I'm so tired of wating oh
What a fool sitting here waiting on someone who ain't coming
But you're the one I want, so I wait
Sitting here watching the tv with only you on my mind
Oh, I knew it wouldn't be easy
But without you I'd rather die
I hope that one day we will make up, one day I will wake up from this terrible dream singing one lovely song
Where'd it all go wrong?
I can't believe it's true, I still love you
So I waited and I waited and I waited some more
And I'm so tired of waiting, oh
What a fool sitting here waiting on someone who ain't coming
But you're the one I want
So I wait

Love Joy

Written By: Mark Jackson

Boy I'm really loving having you around
You help me lay my heavy load upon the ground
You pick me flowers from a garden that abounds
With love, joy, and a happiness together found
Somehow words cannot express feelings of love, joy and happiness
Sometimes there's no point to try
If there are no words then why not go
Shoobee doobee doo.....daddadadda....

Crazy World

Written By: Mark Jackson

It's a crazy world
It's a crazy world
Everything's turning round
There isn't any stable ground
As soon as you settle down
You lose the thing that you have found
Then when you try to go ahead with everything you know
You're caught in the undertow
It's such a crazy world
It's a crazy world
It's a crazy world
Things used to be so clear
More confidence with every year
Who knew hate could be so near
But we refuse to live in fear
Straight ahead never waiver
Do the little ones a favor
Cuz we are living in such a crazy world
So just go on out and have a ball
Throw everything you got against the wall
And I'd say that's some good advice for us all...
...well, since we have to live in such a crazy world...
