Bio

hi8us plays stylie Groove Pop. Grinding it out in the Boston scene, hi8us has shared the stage with nationally recognized acts such as The Samples, Steve Kimock Band, The Disco Biscuits, Soulive, Sam Kininger, The Duo, Addison Groove Project and Mofro.

hi8us has made its impact up and down the East Coast playing for its evergrowing number of fans at many established venues including Nectar's (Burlington, VT), The Middle East (Boston, MA), The Lion's Den (New York, NY), Tobacco Road (Miami, FL), The Hard Rock Café (Key West, FL), and the nationally renowned Berkshire Mountain Music Festival (Great Barrington, MA). In March 2004, the Blue Island Spring Tour took hi8us along the East Coast from Boston to Florida for a two-week, eight-city run. In April 2005, hi8us went south again for a weekend of shows in New Orleans during JazzFest, adding yet another highlight to the scrapbook.

hi8us is Michael Rakusin (keyboards/sax/vocals), Colin Ovitsky (bass), Jim Chekos (guitar/vocals) and Max Monaco (drums). Each musician brings with him a different musical background and perspective, thus creating a unique collective style. While its first release gives listeners a taste of the potential the band possesses, the members of hi8us have truly solidified their musical angle and are focused on the recording of their full-length album set to release in 2006.

Experiencing hi8us live is unforgettable. The band's lyrics are filled with real life stories and their upbeat and danceable blend is twisted with deep improvisational segments combining rock, pop, reggae, funk, hip hop and electronica. Bass driven, soulful grooves served up with an unmistakable pop appeal.
