Hideous Sun Demon first formed as a three piece joke rock band named Fantastic Coprophilia. After playing two shows with little faith or direction, they were lucky enough to be given the chance to record a demo with the Novocaine's Corey Marriott.

Thrown in the deep end, the band decided to start writing more serious material. Through their differing musical tastes and playing styles, the subsequent songs proved to be successful and interesting enough to garner local radio and fellow musicians attention, featuring in Tim Gordon's (The Tumblers) dream gig line up and building up a fan base within the Perth scene including Patrick McLaughlin (Sugar Army), Corey and The Novocaines, TheTumblers, Tusk and Hurricane Fighter Plane's Jamie Canny and Wesley Fuller. Kim Salmon has also shown his appreciation, comparing the band to Melbourne Post Punk outfit the Witch Hats.

In the following months, with increased confidence and a fuller sounding line up, the band began to play low key shows and house parties, whilst developing more complex songs. Due to the diversity in influence and spontaneity in writing, the band's sound has been described as difficult to pin point, whilst retaining a distinct style and flavour.

As mentioned, the tastes of each member is varied, but comes together at a strong point. Some influences of the band include the Pixies, Birthday Party, Talking Heads, Beastie Boys, Kim Salmon, King Khan and the Shrines, Die! Die! Die!, Witch Hats, Witch, Meat Puppets, Esbjorn Svensson Trio, Public Image Ltd and Thought Creature.

Despite taking the musical craft more seriously, the band's stage persona and lyrical content still reflects their humourous beginnings and light hearted approach.
Live, the band has been described as "equal parts energy and absurdity". Each band member has a very strong personality which is very obvious and entertaining to watch.

More recently, the band has recorded another demo with Jim Power at Fat Shan's Records. Both the Corey Marriott and Fat Shan's demos are planned to be released at a low key level in the near future.
