Bio
Lead by the charismatic presence of DAVE FRENCH on lead vocals, who at any stage can evoke memories of Bowie, Bono or Jagger with his slithering stage moves or Townsend like guitar acrobatics. Put simply, he is one of the rare bread that can be classified as a true front man! The Rhythm section of SAUL NIGHTINGALE and JUD are seminal to the HFR sound and hit the kind of grooves that make it impossible to stand still. Saul is easily one of the great Sydney drummers and being the drummers drummer has a steady list of fans that travel to each gig just to watch him do his thing! JUD, being the consummate musician anchors the sound and pulls awesome power and class from his trusty Fender All this leaves the necessary room for SHAUN HAY one of Sydneys great emerging guitar talents to rip his way through each song in his own unique style. His stellar lead work and super charged power is worth the price of admission alone and recorded simply amplifies his brilliance.
The boys recorded their debut double A-side in June 2006 (HOLD ON / BABYS ON FIRE), and released it to a very receptive audience. Available at shows only, they quickly moved all their initial run in a short time and to an overwhelming response. The songs received solid rotation on Community FM throughout Australia, and due to being played on more than 40 stations, received fan messages from as far as Tasmania and Northern WA. The band has also received solid support from FBI radio in Sydney, due not only to the recorded work but due to the buzz on their live performances.
They returned to the studio with acclaimed Engineer/Producer Anton Hagop (Powderfinger/Silverchair) in July of this year, resulting in their debut 6 track EP RIDE THIS SOUND. The results of which the public will see, and hear include 4 brand spanking new songs 25 HITS, TUESDAY, LEAN ON MY SHOULDER and GLUE, and a reworking of their initial double A- side tracks. Two songs were plucked from these recordings and made it all the way to the Top 10 in this years Music Oz competition. With Tuesday, narrowly missing a final 5 nomination in the Pop category and Hold On featuring prominently in the Alternative section. 25 Hits has also been chosen as the first single in a well regarded compilation CD out of L.A and the song has been shipped to around 50 college radio stations across the USA, thus hoping to build a profile for them overseas. Surely a sign of things to come for this recording, they intend to capitalise on this exposure and release the full EP early in the New Year.
