There’s many a face in my memory
And many a scene I regret
Some thing’s I hardly remember
But you I’ll never forget

The jukebox starts up an old song, memories appear in my head
They used to make me sad, but time has blunted their edge.
Now I smile when I think of you and slip back to that dream
This bar fades away and I think of what might have been

We’re dancing together that sad song, forever sweet and plain
We held each other, unwilling to stop, long after the final refrain.
I tried to capture the feel and the scent of your skin
Time sped away and I prayed that the moment not end..

There’s many a face in my memory
And many a scene I regret
Some thing’s I hardly remember
But you I’ll never forget

It’s been years since I saw you, I flash back to that day
With a brave smile, my parting words were “don’t let it end this way”
You knew you would leave- your poems said what you didn’t dare.
You’d never say good by, you’d only say “take care”

There’s many a face in my memory
And many a scene I regret
Some thing’s I hardly remember
But you I’ll never forget

There’s many a face in my memory
And many a scene I regret
Some thing’s I hardly remember
But you I’ll never forget

Dolly's Diner

Written By: Marie Trontell/ Dave Sherman

vs 1
This wasn’t what I bargained for when we planned to wed.

We’d spend our lives together, sleep together in our bed.

But now I work in Santa Fe and you’re back in St Paul

God knows we need the money, after all

vs 2
We cruised until the plant closed- then we hit the skids

I couldn’t find another job- you couldn’t leave the kids

every week we lived on less, ‘till there was nothing left

our loving was the only thing we kept.

Chorus
Now I’ll keep on working here and try to still my mind

not think of what I’m doing or the life I left behind

I’ll do the job I promised to and when work is done

I’ll stop at Dolly’s Diner, let the waitress call me ”hon”

I’ll stop in at the diner, need some-one to call me ”hon”

Vs 3
My cousin helped me get this job. I hate it, but it pays

it’s not exactly legal, but it seemed the only way

When I can save a little more, I’ll quit and send for you

Re- create the life that we once knew

Chorus
Now I’ll keep on working here and try to still my mind

not think of what I’m doing or the life I left behind

I’ll do the job I promised to and when work is done

I’ll stop at Dolly’s Diner, let the waitress call me ”hon”

stop in at the diner, need some-one to call me ”hon”

vs 4
I’m not the man I used to be, it worries me to say
.
I like the old one better and fear you’ll do the same
.
My heart still longs for you, and I hope that is enough

And that I haven’t changed too much to love
