"Review 01-26-2009"

" I just got a copy of Don't Wake Albert, Highly KInd's new release. Man this CD has just about everything I love about music in one recording, great writing, great playing, and great producing. There's something warm and familiar about the feel of the whole CD, kind of like slipping into a comfortable well-worn pair of shoes...Maybe it's the music itself, the style, or Johnny sandlin's mystical touch, but it feels very comfortable after first listen. Albert Simpson's songs are just great, and add to that a handful by Steve Conn and Randall Bramblett, and you have a songwriting trifecta with the Highest Kind of payoff (sorry I couldn't help it). I don't know what it is, but after a few spins there is something very interesting about this recording, almost introspective, as if we're getting a peek into Simpson's personal world. Very Cool, and what a wonderful way to showcase Josh Gooch, a great young player who was invited to test his wings a bit on this recording. You guys sure seem to have it going on up there in Gadsden. Highly Kind "Don't Wake Albert"

Based out of Gadsden, Al., Albert Simpson, lead vocalist, guitarist, and leader of the band, played in several bands that toured the colleges and couches around the southeast for several years. Learning the hard way, what it was to be a so called working musician. In 1998, Trey Evans, keyboardist from Montgomery, Al. was dragged kicking and screaming into the band. Several years passed and Trey was dragged into the band again. Straining there way through the musical soup that the southeast had to offer, Al and Trey eventually found bass player, Kevin Scott, from dothan, Al.. Juggling Drummers like chainsaws for months, the band picked up Duane Trucks, from Jacksonville, Florida, brother of Derek Trucks, of The Derek Trucks Band.
Duane occasionally tours with Soul Stew, which is Derek and his wife, Susan Tedeschi. During that time, Danny Paschall also on drums and percussion, completes the lineup.
After signing with Rockin’ Camel Music, the band recorded their Debut CD,"Don't Wake Albert", with legendary producer Johnny Sandlin, who produced great acts like The Allman Brothers Band, Widespread Panic, Aquarium Rescue Unit, and the list goes on and on.
Covering a wide array of musical genres like; rock, blues, bluegrass, funk, jazz, reggae, fusion, and zydeco, Highly Kind is keeping that southern fried funk sound alive, and is surely one of the most entertaining bands on the road.
