Highwire

The band frolics from original tunes set at a sprightly pace to sweetly serious social conscious melodies reminiscent of a not-so-long-ago era of love and peace. It is one part acoustic folk, one part rhythmic arabesque, and one part good-natured country bohemian bluegrass--with a dash of fun-loving jester to pique listener engagement. Influences include Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, Ian Anderson, Neil Young, REM, Lorena McKennit, plus a weaving of Arabic threads, including muse-like song structures reminiscent of the 13th century poet Rumi. Descending from the relative isolation of the mountain town of Julian, Highwire may be found stumbling humbly into the big city to commune with the urban folk who readily stoke their creative fires. The trio's own roots rise from a background of playing the local farmers’ market, social benefits, art gatherings, protest rallies, and backyard parties throughout San Diego County.
