Biography

Hillbilly Rickshaw started with the song "Someday", written as a tribute to Dominic's father after his passing. With much praise from friends and family, he was asked to play a benefit for a close friend with cancer. With only 3 weeks to prepare, he turned to childhood friends Tom Theres and Darrell Moore, to play guitars for this show. Tom then asked his brother-in-law, Sam Chiavola, to play drums. After a very successful show, Hillbilly Rickshaw was formed.

We immediately started playing local venues while continuing to write material. Looking to complete the line-up, Brendon Irons was asked to join the band as its bassist. Hillbilly Rickshaw was now complete.

Our music can be described as multi-genre, reaching fans of rock, southern rock, and old school country. Writing about real life situations with soul shaking rhythms, you immediately identify with the bands music. Coming from different musical backgrounds, our influences are as distinctive as Hillbilly Rickshaw itself.

Hillbilly Rickshaw has been together for 6 months. With driving acoustic guitars and a hard hitting rhythm topped with an explosive live show, Hillbilly Rickshaw has created a sound that is relatable to a diverse audience.

Hillbilly Rickshaw decided to submit to SXSW and recorded 3 songs live in a few hours at a friend’s basement studio. We hope you enjoy what you hear and we look forward to being chosen to play SXSW.

Soul

Written By: Dominic Horwath

Cause I feel your soul
Out there on it's own
Your mind is wild and restless
No where to call home
If you'd just ease your mind
and take your time
And let it play out slow
Your troubles and your problems
Would surely fade and go
Cause somewhere, way out there
Your heart's turned black and cold

Prescriptions and your problems
I don't care no more
Take your pills with all their ills
And stand outside my door
I've been picturing your problems
They're a mound and I cant solve them
The only thing I see in store
Is that I should've let you go
So long ago
Your hearts turned black and cold

I never loved that's why I'm leavin'
Cause I'm tired of decievin'
The both us
Especially me
No more drugs in the relation
Cause I do not have the patience
To travel down
Your rocky pill road again
Cause somewhere, way out there
Your heart's turned black and cold

Just a black and cold
Black and cold
Cold soul

Black and cold
Just a black and cold
Black and cold
Cold soul

Cause somewhere, way out there. . .

Country Girl

Written By: Dominic Horwath

I've been looking for a country girl
Who'll change my life
And rock my world
But all's I seem to find are phony beauty queens
Every now and then when I need a friend
I'll take another one home with me again
But it always turns out the same
They've got outstreached hands
From them one night stands
That shit is wearin' thin on me my friends
But I think I finally found my best friend

All's I know, I've put in way too much time to let her go
All's I can say, I can't sit here and just let her walk away, walk away
Country girl

All this time she was in front of me
We'd been friends so long I couldn't see
A heart of gold just like me
I think I finally fuckin realized
Not about outside but what's inside
I'm done with stuck up phony beauty queens

All's I know, I've put in way too much time to let her go
All's I can say, I can't sit here and just let her walk away, walk away
Country girl

All's I know, I've put in way too much time to let her go
All's I can say, I can't sit here and just let her walk away, walk away
Country girl

Rocks a white tee shirt old cut-off blue jeans
Goes fishin' with me down by that little stream
Where we hung out long ago
Stay out all night till the break of dawn
Drink a fifth of Jim Beam till it's gone
Get naked, hump all night long

All's I know, I've put in way too much time to let her go
All's I can say, I can't sit here and just let her walk away, walk away
Country girl

Country girl
Country girl
Country girl
Beauty queen

Just like me

Written By: Dominic Horwath

Grew up down in a West Virginia holler
Woke up before the break of dawn
Just to make a dollar
But that ain't me

So I started brewin my shine and growin them trees
Just to feed a family
I said to hell with this society
I'm a country boy livin wild and free
Raise your hands and shout out loud with me
If you want to be down with the Rickshaw family
Just like me
Just like me

Holy roller, fuckin' judgin' me
I said preacher man, extend your hands and try to save me

Good luck with the A.T.F. catchin' up with me
I live way back in the woods you see
Somewhere, down in Will Co.

Screw Barack Obama and Uncle Sam
With his taxes on us and on our lands
Time to rise people and take a stand

Slow your roll down spin one up with me
Share it with the family
Cause that's how country folk be

Holy roller, fuckin' judgin' me
I said preacher man, extend your hands and try to save me

Holy roller, fuckin' judgin' me
I said preacher man, extend your hands and try to save me

All you Austin girls lookin' up at me
Turn around, shake that thing for me
That's how the Rickshaw family
How we rock and how we roll
Goin' show to show
Drop all your clothes
Drop all your needs

I'm an old dead-head from way back when
Jerry Garcia used to be my friend
We used to do our drugs
But now he's dead
Just like me
Just like me

Holy roller, fuckin' judgin' me
I said preacher man, extend your hands and try to save me
