H. Luke Anderson

H. Luke Anderson grew up in a small town outside Rochester, NY. His musical career began in the fourth grade, when he started playing trombone in the school band. A couple of years later, enamored by the music of Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Meters, and the garage band down the street, he was inspired to learn the bass guitar. He later gravitated toward songwriting, taking cues from artists like John Mayer and Jack Johnson, and picked up guitar and piano out of necessity. H. Luke's songwriting style has been shaped by diverse musical genres and later polished by studying classical and jazz theory at Harvard University. His debut acoustic EP, Out of Mind, was recorded in the summer of 2013 with the help of Marshall Westlake Manuel (guitarist and sound engineer at WAVpool Records) and Ray Boss (percussion). Over the years, his sound has evolved over the years and incorporated more R&B and jazz elements. These influences permeate his first full-length album, I Wake Up, recently released on iTunes and Spotify. The 12-song project is truly genre-bending, meandering seamlessly (and often simultaneously) through the worlds of rock, R&B, jazz, and folk. H. Luke Anderson performed vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, keyboards, and trombone on the recordings, and was joined by longtime friends and bandmates Marshall Westlake Manuel (electric guitar), Ray Boss (drums and keyboards), Kenny Chauby (trumpet), and Becky Hallam (backing vocals). H. Luke Anderson is currently based in Philadelphia, PA, although he maintains strong ties to Rochester, Boston, and New Orleans.
