the Himalayan Adventure League
Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Bio
The Himalayan Adventure League (HMLYN), is a fraternal organization formed under the auspices of President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908 to survey and develop intelligence in the Himalayas and Indian Subcontinent. Recommissioned in 1933 under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to scour the globe in search of incredible tales of adventure and heroism, HMLYN aims to convey the infinite in the mundane.
As a part of the New Deal and the Public Works Commission, HMLYN was instrumental in creating the American identity and boosting morale through the worst of the Great Depression and Second World War. After the war, the order was significantly reduced and re-prioritized for the purpose of collecting stories and preserving cultural antiquities.
Now in its seventh incarnation, the five remaining members of HMLYN have catalogued the vast archives of tales in order to communicate them to a new generation with the hopes of inspiring adventure and reviving a lost sense of wonder.
