"Interview: HOA Bossman, A Prelude To “L.I.F.E” Album Release"

Hip-Hop has come along way since the beginning from rhyming on park benches to seeing people pay their last penny on tickets to attend music festivals. All year round, many fans have the option of selecting SXSW, Coachella, MIA, A3C and other great hip-hip events but nothing compares to having a close interaction with an artist as they perform on stage at smaller venues. This past week, a wide number of people experience just that with Brooklyn-based artist, HOA Bossman as he held his album release event at the Lit Lounge venue in New York City in regards to his forthcoming project L.I.F.E.

Around 10PM, the place was packed out and scorching hot with very little space to maneuver. Not a problem for most folks who showed up, the event was filled with hip-hop enthusiast and media journalists alike all prepared to have a great time while enjoying live performances. The night proceeded with many giveaways from sponsors, a twerk contest and performances from selected artists Viktor G, Iceberg Shim, Jaeden Zoe, Synead, Hannibal King, Lil Freckles, and Chemical Ape. Later that night, HOA Bossman took the stage but not before playing Hot N*gga by Bobby Shmurda to get the crowd pumped before his performance. After gracing the stage. Bossman performed few selected songs off his forthcoming album, L.I.F.E set to release sometime next month. To get more details on the album, HOA Bossman sat down to speak on the meaning behind the album’s title, what this project means to him and more. See interview below.

For those who don’t know you, state your name, where you’re from and what you do?

My names HOA Bossman. I got the name bossman from my mom when I was a kid because she said I was bossy and always wanted things my way. HOA is an acronym for a hip-hop media website four friends and I created in high school entitled, House of Aura. I’m from Bedstuy Brooklyn and I do it all but in better words, I’m a businessman who creates music as well as opportunities for my people through showcases, platforms, jobs and such.

Your release event was in regards to your forthcoming project L.I.F.E. Tell me how excited you are for the release of your new project?
I’m honestly as excited as can be because this is my first project I didn’t rush. I really sat down and took my time to create this one. This is also my first album so people will be able to hear my production since me and my friend Dusty made every instrumental on it. I also engineered, mix and mastered the whole thing with my other friend Mari.
Is the name of the album title an acronym and if so what does it stand for?

Yes it is, a few meanings are:
LIFE – Living Is For Everyone
LIFE – Living In Fear Everyday
LIFE – Live In Freedom Everyday
LIFE – Living In Faith Everyday
LIFE – Love Is For Everyone
LIFE – Life Is For Enjoyment
What are you hoping to achieve with this project?
More people to relate to me, support me, gain more fans but most of all, greatness with a timeless album that can be on played for the rest of time.

Do you have an idea for a release date yet?
We been delaying on dropping this album due to money and most of all, time amongst me and Mari to mix and master it. It should definitely be out by the 2nd or 3rd week of September. I promise this project is f*cking worth the wait. - Jeff Stashbox

Hailing from the same Brooklyn neighborhood as Biggie Smalls, HOA Bossman began rapping at the age of 17 as a means of cathartic and artistic expression. He draws his inspiration from life’s obstacles; Music is his tool to motivate himself and others, to push through hardships and ascend.

“My music is for those who have lost faith and hope.”

HOA Bossman writes, produces, mixes, and masters his own tracks, but above all, he is an artist, who achieves a certain level of scrutiny during his creative process. His music  focuses on relatability. Each track is an underdog soul-strengthener. Each minuscule aspect of his  creations are fueled by raw emotion, resulting in different sounds, meanings, and messages, every time he lets his creativity loose.

He is currently working on new material, and a mixtape and album will be expected to be released sometime in 2015.
