Call it Americana, roots rock, blues rock, alt country, it doesn't matter. There are some types of music that no matter how the world changes, it still remains a staple of appeal. Hailing from Charleston, SC Hoekstra is all about writing good songs that draw from the wells of blues, gospel, old time country, and root rock and roll. This isn't "party" music or trite songs that linger on drinking and women. The band actually gives a damn about how well they play they their instruments, how good the songs are, and how involved the audience relates to the experience. As Blake Ohlson puts it, "it's all about the "song", that experience that everyone gets from putting a song out there as a band and having the audience share in it equally. Once you put your experiences out there, they no longer belong just to you."

Who does Hoekstra sound like? We'll everyone and no one to be exact. In the proverbial sense, think of the "four B's": The Band, the Black Crowes, Bob Dylan, and the Byrds.

The bands music is almost as diverse as its line up. Blake Ohlson(vocals, guitar) comes from Cleveland, Ohio and was most recently with the band Steelpetals. Duck Reynolds (drums) hails from Beaufort, SC and is better known for his long-time roll as the drummer from the Defilers (2001-2007). Northern California native Scott Funkhauser (bass, vocals) completes the "California Soul" group that is Hoekstra.

The band is in the process of writing material and has already begun playing shows in the Charleston area. Plans to hit the studio are slated for the Fall.
