ARE Winnipeg's Hoist a rock band? A jazz trio? Funk wannabes? How about all of the above, and then some.
The trio of Brad Cerasani and brothers Luke and Nick Alexiuk show off a wide range of influences on their third album's nine tracks, offering up a little something for everybody. On Writer kicks things off on a rootsy note before they show off their jazz chops on Part-Time Apologist, which threatens to explode into something bigger, but never does. Techno Elvis has a reggae vibe, horns are added to the playful swing of Wasteland and Unsynchronized Hurt is an energetic funk track.
The skilled musicians are adventurous, but are still searching for the bigger hooks and stronger melodies that will keep listeners coming back for repeat listens. Once they find them, these characters will achieve lift off - The Winnipeg Free Press

Bio
Hoist consists of three friends from Winnipeg, Canada who think that third person biographies are pretentious.
We've been playing together for a few years, and friends for a few more. Forming in 2005 from fragments of other projects, our trio meshed immediately because of our complementary musical personalities.
Our influences can largely be summed to "life", including aurally but often otherwise. Our sound is heavily influenced by the likes of Barenaked Ladies, Dave Matthews Band, and Incubus.
As of January 2011 we’ve independently released 3 albums, the two most recent of which were written, recorded, mixed and designed exclusively by the three of us. You can find our music for sale online internationally, with distribution through more than 20 networks including iTunes in 6 countries. We are also in regular rotation on Galaxie Radio.
