Bio

Hojarasca, a contemporary trio of musicians evolving the language of Andean music was born in the Colombian highlands of Carmen de Viboral near Medellin in 2007. Under the direction of composer and instrument maker Lucas Rodas they have established themselves in their home region as a force in enriching the growth of Andean music through their unique blend of contemporary and traditional aesthetics.

Using a palette of flutes, charango, guitar and drums Lucas Rodas along with Ana Maria Calderon and Diego Garcia conjures up the dimensions of their landscape with breath giving compositions, precise musicality and unique harmonies.

In 2012 the trio performed at the Iberoamericano Festival and in 2013 toured the USA in conjunction with Nemcatacoa Teatro and The Carpetbag Brigade as part of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation "Southern Exposure" program. The band presented work in diverse locations ranging from Summer Stage NYC to the Hopi Reservation to San Francisco's Mission Cultural Center to the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The seven month tour included 52 presentations from Hojarasca either as part of theatrical performances or presenting their musical material in concert.
