"Press for RB's pre-HOLGANS record 'Supermodern World Of Beauty' (a choice selection of which is currently performed by HOLGANS)"

OTTAWA XPRESS: "“a sprawling pop passion play of often celestial proportions, a sort of Pet Sounds cruising in interstellar overdrive, wherin Bourne serves up psychedelic songs of heartbreak...Not since the late Elliott Smith's Figure 8, its lyrical pain alternately distant and direct, has bruised introspection sounded so grand, hypnotic and affecting”

SCENE: "On Supermodern World of Beauty pop genius Ryan Bourne takes the expansive uplift of late-Sixties sunshine pop, the D.I.Y. aural aesthetic of garage music, a splash of Badfinger's sturdy power-pop and hits the crush button on the sonic blender."

DISCORDER: "Supermodern World of Beauty is a confident first recording that ought to take little time in becoming a favourite." - multiple

Bio

HOLGANS provide the soundscape for the otherworldly lovechild-utopia of songwriter Ryan Bourne and visual artist, Kiarra Albina. Originally consummated during a residency at 809 gallery (RIP soon), HOLGANS sound (and look) like the dreamy psychedelic pop/rock nature-drone guidebook to being human.

Kiarra Albina's psychedelic animated films, mini-books, installations and drawings have been exhibited throughout Canada and in Europe in galleries, fairs, independent comic bookstores, theatres and artist-run centres. In addition to her drawing practice, Kiarra's current focus is producing 2D animation for projection, and developing sets and costumes, for HOLGANS.

Ryan Bourne has toured and recorded his genre-blurring psych-pop internationally, and performed at Pop Montreal, Halifax Pop Explosion and Sled Island, with Calgary bands Deadhorse and Extra Happy Ghost!!! He is currently developing new work for the second HOLGANS record.
