Bio
Since 1988 Gianluca Maria Sorace acts as musician and author in Livorno, Tuscany, ITALY.
At 18, he founded the punk-wave band called Moss Garden.
In 1990 his experience with the band came to an end and he began to write a completely different kind of music, more intimate, influenced by Syd Barrett, Chet Baker and Sonic Youth.
He wrote absolutely lo-fi songs when in Italy this kind of music was poorly explored: inaccurate vocals, slightly out of tune and out of time instruments, toy keyboards, pots and spoons used as instruments.
He wrote a large quantity of songs, sometimes even two songs a day . His lo-fi attitude was partially caused by his need to immediately record all these songs, partially by his being influenced by Syd Barretts solos which so absolutely imperfect and unrefined- led him towards a more immediate and emotional /inner kind of music.
He performed on several occasions with the music composer Marco Lenzi, often in theatres and records shops, by playing his own songs or Barretts songs. This period ended with a reinterpretation and live performance of 15 songs by the early Pink Floyd singer, with classical instruments (cello, piano, double-bass, wind instruments, vocals) played slightly uncoordinatedly and partially improvisedly.
In 1995 he founded the band Tangomarziano, which in 2002 was awarded the privilege of playing on the main stage at the Arezzo Wave exhibition (one of the most important Italian alternative music festival).
HollowBlue was his solo project, set aside for some years in favour of the activity and perfomances of Tangomarziano.
When Tangomarziano split off, Hollowblue became a band at the end of 2003 (with Marco Calderisi, Giancarlo Russo, Chiara Cavalli and Federico Moi).
In 2004 Hollowblue recorded their debut album "What you left behind" for Italian label Suiteside.
A special collaboration on it: a song with Anthony Reynolds (from Jack/Jacques, albums for Warner, Too pure, Aquarela, Setanta
). They also did a video clip together.
