"Music: Holly Akimow"

Holly Akimow played an intimate acoustic set friday night at The Human Bean Cafe on King Street in Cobourg. She moved seemlessly between guitar and keyboard, delievering a variety of sounds. It was a very relax atomosphere for the cafe patrons, as Holly played a mix of her own work (such as Don't Tell Me) and a few covers, the highlight of which was her impressive rendition of My Chemical Romance's The Ghost of You. Keep an eye out for her in the Toronto area. - Northumberland Independent

Bio

Holly Akimow is a singer/songwriter in Toronto, Ontario. She started writing at age 10 but it wasn't until 8 years later that anyone would hear her. Threatened by a friend that he would destroy her if she didn't use her voice, Holly got to work and started singing up a storm. In the next five years, three full-length albums were unleashed and she's only just begun.

With a love for classical and pop music, she often tosses orchestral parts amongst the piano and guitars to create something that isn't quite Tori Amos, nor Holly McNarland ... but something to call her own.

On garageband.com, Holly's track 'Falling' was issued a 'Best Keyboards' award in their Alternative Pop genre, where three years later she still holds fourth place for this category in their all-time charts. 'Rain', the first song she wrote, was awarded Track of the Day, and 'Rewind' was awarded Track of the Day, Best Female Vocals, Best Melody, and Best Keyboards all within a week of posting it for reviews. In 2005 Holly was nominated for an EMI songwriting scholarship for 'Rewind'.

While studying music at University and College in London Ontario, Holly started performing at local bars and was showcased on both UWO and Fanshawe's radio stations. She's started creeping into Toronto venues, performing at C'est What and The Free Times Cafe. Holly's played alongside fellow-Canadians Serena Ryder, Andrea England Drowning Girl and The Hoolie Snatch, and is looking to see that list grow.

Her latest release 'Take The Blame' is full of angst, heart-ache and hooks that will keep you tapping your toes and wanting to tell-off anyone that ever broke your heart.
