Start with a pair of lizard skin Naconas, add little black dress fit for a full grown woman, a dash of edge, mix well with red dirt soul and you have the perfect recipe for songs by singer/songwriter Holly Allen.

Biography

Kissed by the Deep South, Holly writes and performs compelling roots-country music. Her gift is in the story telling, an intricate weaving of past and present that is the world around her. This EPK is a sample of Holly’s talent. Her catalog covers a lot of ground, born from observations of life and expressed through melodies that linger in your heart and leave you wanting more.

Holly Allen grew up at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, emerging from a long line of practicing musicians. Her father taught her a few chords on an old “taterbug” mandolin and when her hands got big enough, she reached for his guitar.

Influenced by bluegrass, country, the blues and old time rock and roll, she began singing and making up songs as a child. Very soon she discovered that she had a passion for songwriting and has been playing her guitar and penning songs ever since.
Holly performs throughout the Southeast, and has been a featured artist at The Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga, TN, Prism Coffee House in Charlottesville, VA, Atlanta’s Red Light Café, Eddie’s Attic and Smith’s Ode Bar. She has also performed live on WRFG’s Blues in the Morning Show and has had the good fortune to work with legendary producer Johnny Sanlin, as well as stellar musicians Bill Stewart, Pete Carr, David Hood, Spooner Oldham, and Scott Boyer

Last night I dreamed of Arkansas
Baptized in the waters of the Ouachita
A refugee in a land lush and green
I wandered barefooted 'neath the white oak
Up above Crystal Springs

CHORUS:

The water is alive and she breathes
Hummin' with a siren song
Callin' angels without wings
Makin' their way back home

I stood in the doorway of a house
Built over the river bed
Crossed the threshold
Water singin' in my head
No floor below me, I walked on pure intent
In a place between worlds
Where the Earthbound await their ascent
Ethereal strangers, bright-eyed and hollow-boned
All dressed for Sunday morning, names etched in stone

CHORUS:

The bluest eyes I've ever seen
Tagged another Jane Doe
But her name was Lorelee
A dark storm cloud took her from this world
She shone like a diamond this side of heaven's shore
A castaway prayer lay at my Savior's feet
In a jade-green bottle
Across the crystal sea
Godspeed Lorelee into Holy Hands
Lord, Deliver my child back into Canaan's land

Into Canaan's land

Into Canaan's land

Into Canaan's land

MISS CHRISTINE

MOLUCK MUSIC AND WHATNOT PUBLISHING

MISS CHRISTINE RAISED A BAKER'S DOZEN
OUT OF TWO ROOMS, A KITCHEN IN A FLATBOARD HOUSE
A WOMAN OF VIRTUE THE PATIENCE OF A SAINT
SHE HAD THE SPIRIT OF THE ANGELS AND THOSE CHILDREN JUST FOLLOWED MISS CHRISTINE AROUND

HER HANDS WERE ROUGH, THE WORK WAS HARD
THEY GREW ALL THAT THEY COULD EAT, SHE TOOK IN ALL THE NEIGHBORS WASH
SHE BOUGHT 'EM SUNDAY CLOTHES, BOOKS AND SHOES
THEIR WANTS WERE MANY BUT THEIR NEEDS WERE FEW
THEIR BELLYS WERE FULL, DREAMS WERE SWEET AND RICH AND THEIR SOULS BELONGED TO JESUS
CHORUS
EVERY EVENING AFTER SUPPERTIME SHE'D WALK ALONE ON THE HILLSIDE
LAY HER BURDENS ON DOWN WITH THE SETTING SUN TAKE THE COLOR UP ON HER SHOULDERS

HER HUSBAND WAS A PREACHER MAN BUT THERE WEREN'T NO MONEY IN
SO ALL WEEK LONG HE'D GANDY DANCE BENEATH THAT HOT ALABAMA SUN
LAYING DOWN THAT STEEL RAIL TRACK FOR THE LUXURY TRAIN TO RIDE THE POOR MAN'S BACK
HE'D SING A WORKING SONG HURRY FRIDAY ALONG BACK TO CHRISTINE OUT ON THE HORIZON
CHORUS
FRIDAY EVENING AFTER SUPPERTIME HE'D SEE HER ALONE OUT ON THE HILLSIDE
LAYING HER BURDENS ON DOWN WITH THE SETTING SUN TAKING THE COLOR UP ON HER SHOULDERS
SHE'D TAKE A SLOW AND EASY BREATH
SURE-FOOTED IN EVERY STEP
EVER MINDFUL OF THE MIRACLES THAT ENFOLD HER...

SHE SHINES BRIGHTER THAN A STARRY NIGHT, WHISPERS ABOVE MONET' DEEPER THAN THE RENAISSANCE
MISS CHRISTINE, YOU SURELY TAKE MY BREATH AWAY
A LOVING STROKE OF BRUSH AND OIL, A WORK OF ART
NO I NEVER HAD THE PLEASURE BUT I KNOW CHRISTINE BY HEART
CHORUS
I'VE SEEN HER AFTER SUPPERTIME WALKING ALONE ON THE HILLSIDE
LAYING HER BURDENS ON DOWN WITH THE SETTING SUN TAKING THE COLOR UP ON HER SHOULDERS

LAYING HER BURDENS ON DOWN LAYING HER BURDENS ON DOWN
OUT ON THE HILLSIDE
MISS CHRISTINE......

She’s a skinny girl a pretty package wrapped up tight
Feeding on the hunger in every young man’s mind
She wears short skirts, struts around in high heeled boots
Got her belly button pierced she’s got a tribal tattoo

Chorus
She falls head over heel for every single line
From some pretty boy’s mouth, some articulate jive
She knows who she is as long as there’s a man in sight
To reflect her image, keep her wrapped up tight
She’s a skinny girl

She drives a four wheel Jimmy, got the windows all tinted up black
Blowing down Rodeo shaking that monkey on her back
She got a bonafide cure for every kind of broken heart
She never reaches her limit on her platinum card …no, no, no

Chorus
She falls head over heel for every single line
From some pretty boy’s mouth, some articulate jive
She knows who she is as long as there’s a man in sight
To reflect her image, keep her wrapped up tight
She’s a skinny girl

That girl is paper thin… can’t help but give herself away
no, no she don’t even cast a shadow begging that man to stay
She can get what she wants, just can’t take what she needs
She’s coming undone that man is so hard to please

Chorus
She falls head over heel for every single line
From some pretty boy’s mouth, some articulate jive
She knows who she is as long as there’s a man in sight
To reflect her image, keep her wrapped up tight
She’s a skinny girl
