Bio
I own a coffeehouse/bookstore in Flatbush, Brooklyn called Vox Pop (The Village Voice called us the best political coffeehouse in NYC in 2005). My whole life revolves around activism. I believe the most effective ways of dealing with the heinous problems in this country often involve humor, so I write humorous commentary on American culture. I make fun of everyone, most of all myself. My main influences are Ani DiFranco, The Violent Femmes, RadioHead, They Might be Giants, The Indigo Girls, Liz Phair, and Bob Dylan. When I gig I generally have the whole audience laughing and singing along. After singing "Why am I not a lesbian?" I always have people coming up to me saying, "I've thought the same thing! I can't believe you wrote a song about that!". The most rewarding part about writing and playing my songs is that people seem to relate completely, really enjoy themselves, and feel inspired to become politically active.
