Bio

www.hollyreneeallen.com or Holly Renee Allen

With a voice real and as honest as they come, Holly Renee Allen delivers Americana soul. Her songs are rich and vibrant, lyrically intelligent... "Southernese" set the tone for RED DIRT SOUL.  A melodic collection of the usual love, heartache, and longing but bold as a ruby camellia blooming in the Georgia red clay.

The musical chemistry between Kearns and Allen is once again apparent on BIG LOVE. Lyrically it is potent and personal, the telling of real life, past and present. Musically mellow and steady on, like an excellent Sunday drive with just enough curve to keep things interesting and enough blue sky to keep you on the good foot.

Holly has played throughout the southeast and  made a name for herself in the songwriter circles around Atlanta playing such revered clubs as Smiths Old Bar, Eddies Attic and the Red Light Caf.  Shes had the good fortune to work with legendary producer Johnny Sanlin as well as stellar musicians Bill Stewart, Pete Carr, David Hood, Spooner Oldham, Scott Boyer and shared the stage with the talented Grant Peeples, Carla Russell, Scott Boyer and Leroy Parnell and Charlottesvilles own Terri Allard just to name a few.  Her song Her Place is the title track of Sanlins compilation CD, a benefit project for Alabamas Womens Shelter, Hope Place and her song Miss Christine was given honorable mention by the John Lennon songwriters contest.  In 2002, Holly was a featured artist for Chattanoogas River Bend festival giving her the opportunity to work with Atlanta musician and producer Marty Kearns (Shawn Mullins , Indigo Girls, Jennifer Nettles).  Hollys current release, Red Dirt Soul, released in 2011 was recorded in Atlanta and produced by Kearns at his studio Down In Deep. The incredible Shawn Mullins and Oliver Wood ( The Wood Brothers ) both lent their talent to several tracks on Holly Renee Allen's RED DIRT SOUL. BIG LOVE is receiving good press as well and has been played country and independent stations.

"Holly Renee Allen sings with a voice thats older than her years. Lifetimes older. How else can you explain the emotion, texture, and soul that pour out of her petite frame? She used that incredible voice to garner tons of praise for her debut album Red Dirt Soul. She follows that success with her new album, Big Love. As the name implies, Holly focuses her attention on affairs of the heart. She explores the love of a woman for a man, the love of a mother for her child, the love of God for all Gods children, and even the love of a woman for her guitar. In a relaxed, "unplugged session, Hollys voice and lyrics take center stage on this album. "

"Hollys lyrical depth combined with her intimate, honest vocals resonate more like hymns than mere songs. Each song is a prayer and a meditation that washes over you like a musical baptism. These hymns to love remind me of the times in my own life when I was touched by BIG LOVE: when I felt the kindness of a stranger or when I was lifted from despair by the actions of a friend. And like those moments, BIG LOVE inspires me to be more loving in my own actions. I know thats not a typical reaction to an album, but this is not a typical album. This album needs to be felt as much as listened to, and youll feel better for having listened."

These songs werent cranked out of some gentrified Nashville writers room.  Theres nothing imagined here. These songs are the real deal: calluses and blisters, dust, dirt and sweat. Grant Peeples, Recording Artist

Holly Allen is one of the most enchanting artists Ive worked with. She manages to combine a sincere innocence with the maturity of a full grown woman. It is not possible to hear her and remain untouched by her spirit. Martin Kearns, Producer

" Her words spell such raw honesty that you would swear you were right there inside every song. A witness to the beauty, but also the hard knocks in life, she dances in the company of artists like Tony Jo White, Ry Cooder and Bobby Gentry. But only Holly Renee Allen can dish out her own story songs like nobodys business, in RED DIRT SOUL  -JeanAnne Chapman Richardson North Georgia Magazine
