"Hollywood Harlot - Generation Sleaze"

July 18th, 2008
On the last day of Rocklahoma, the Glam/Metal fest of the year in the unexpected Oklahoma heat, I dragged myself to a private party at the campgrounds. Without much expectation, I gathered with the crowd to listen to a new band called Hollywood Harlot. The show on the temporary stage that made all the long walks, the mud soaked grounds and the blistering sun seem like simple minor distractions. Driven by hairspray, spandex, and the modern day straightening comb, these youngsters gave the head banging crowd exactly what they came to hear. Full-on rock-n-roll. In the veins of Motley Crue and Quiet Riot, this band of youngsters throws serious riffs and screaming vocals into original songs with a flurry of color and hair.
lead by Mikki Slick's high octane voice, the dueling lead guitars of Jackie 'Eye-Candy" Sleaze and the adorable Stikki Rikki, far from fail the hardcore Sleaze/Metal fan. Rounded out by the antics of Tommi Gunn on bass and the incredibly cute Danny Gin on the drums, the sound is full and complete, the look totally Glam. I was amused at the crowd's enthusiasm for this new found treasure and found myself joining the excitement as the crowd grew in rapid jumps. My only disappointment was the end of the set.
As a friend's request, I sat down and spoke to these newcomers. The best word I can find to describe this encounter is "interesting". With an age range of only 18-22, I initially felt a bit taken aback, and had to reassure myself by asking their manager to sit with us, though it didn't take long for us to become friendly. Outgoing and outlandish, this band of beautiful boys takes their music very seriously. Not a novelty or a cover band, they find their inspiration in the typical bands such as Van Halen, and Poison, but also in the new Sleaze arena of Dirty Penny and Gypsy Pistolero, both of whom they have shared the stage with.
Having recently opened for JetBoy they've come a long way since their debut show at the Pink Eye wit a whopping attendance of 5 plus a dude with a gun. Their short lived career has earned them many colorful stories of sex, drugs and rock-n-roll lifestyle although they assured me they stay completely sober prior to all shows to assure they give the crowd 110% every time. Not many bands can make that statement. Talking with the group, they are surprisingly focused on where they want to go, and quite humble when giving thanks to those who have made it possible for them to come this far. Much praise goes to Loren and Debbie (Mama Harlot) who not only act as manager, caregiver, and practice space providers, but also as parents to the young Mr. Sleeze. With a summer full of gigs and a growing fan base, it's easy to tag these hotties as the next generation of Sleaze Rockers. To quote their manager"with a lot of hard work, I think these guys will go far."

Bio

Prepare yourself to be smacked between the ears by a wall of sound generated by a musical quintet called Hollywood Harlot. Combining unique songwriting, crunching guitars, heart pounding rhythm section and in general high caliber musicianship, Hollywood Harlot is the hottest new band on the scene. Formed in 2005 by high school classmates, the group shared the same interest of music. Unlike most of your younger generation today, their influences ranged from Motley Crue, Poison, and Ratt to all the other killer groups of the 80’s. Equal parts of hair metal, glam metal and sleaze rock set the standard for this group’s high energy style. From big hair to make-up, these bad boys know how to rock the house. See for yourself one of the most dynamic rock bands to come out of Tulsa’s rock scene.
