"A nod from LA Buzz Bands"

Les Blanks’ Americana-infused indie-rock is the stuff of hard riffing and even harder drinking. Their 2008 album “Shoot the Horse” earned a lot of favor in Silver Lake circles, but it’s taken three years for Josh Caldwell, Parker Todd Brooks and Brian Soika (now joined by Keith Waggoner and Jonathan Hylander) to make a follow-up. Now it’s finished; “In Country” [stream] will be out May 3. Edgy guitars, harmonica, saloon piano, attitude, a scorcher in “Mine Eyes” — “In Country” has a little bit of everything. Caldwell and Waggoner have been busy on the side, too. Earlier this year, working under the name Holy Folk with members of Amateurs and Johnny O’Donnell, they released a free four-song EP titled “Heavy Hands.” - Buzzbands.la

"A review of our first EP - Heavy Hands"

I just luv it when it feels right from the second you play it. The EP “Heavy Hands by LA based Holy Folk that is making the rounds right now is a must have. The album succeeds because it does not try to hard. It is folk/rock, an acoustic sound locomotive, powerful in its sounds, wonderful in its ability to touch you on so many different levels. Heavy Hands features performances from members of Les Blanks, Amateurs and Johnny O’Donnell. The record was co-written by Josh Caldwell and Keith Waggoner and produced at Waggoner’s studio in Silver Lake. - Loudvine.com

Bio

Holy folk is a collaboration between LA songwriters Keith Waggoner, Josh Caldwell, Ryan George and Jonathan Hylander. The project began in 2009 as a studio venture between Caldwell and Waggoner, who at the time, played together in the band, Les Blanks.

Holy Folk first released a free 4 song digital EP in 2011 entitled Heavy Hands which was produced by the band at Waggoner's studio in Silver Lake. The EP was generally well received, buoyed by it's first single, "Kind Hearts (Keep Giving)", which received multiple soundtrack placements in 2011. Loudvine.com called Heavy Hands "a must have", deeming the record:

"an acoustic sound locomotive, powerful in its sounds, wonderful in its ability to touch you on so many different levels.".

George and Hylander joined the effort in 2012 and began contributing material to the new record. George also performed and sang lead vocals on a cover of Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" which was was released as a digital single this past April.

Holy Folk is currently putting the finishing touches on their debut full-length, which they plan on releasing in January of next year.
