"More Tiny Desk Contest 'Deskoveries'"

NPR:

This year, more than 30 bands and solo acts from central Florida entered the 2018 Tiny Desk Contest. To celebrate these talented musicians, WMFE ran its own friendly competition for listeners to choose local favorites. Thousands of votes later, five acts rose to the top. The top three – Holy Human, John Korbel and CeCe Teneal & Soul Kamotion – performed at WMFE's ZipOde Throwdown, the station's annual zip code poetry event. Each of the top five acts was also featured in its own segment on WMFE's local public affairs show, Intersection (you can check out the the segments here). —Jenny Babcock, WMFE - NPR

Bio

Described as a “shambling Daytona Beach freak psych-cult that channels The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Dinosaur Jr. to hazy effect” (Orlando Weekly), Holy Human lives up to their reputation by creating a diverse array of 60s-inspired psychedelic rock songs. By combining holy harmonies, bluesy riffs, ethereal textures, and a thumping rhythm section, Holy Human’s music is a trip to another world. Initially formed as a solo project by singer/guitarist Matt Wall, the band takes its name from the footnote to Allen Ginsberg’s poem “Howl”— “Everything is holy! Everybody’s holy! Everywhere is holy! Everyday is in eternity! Every man’s an angel!”

The concept of the project was to take this cosmic embrace of existence and contrast it with a swampy darkness that pays homage to Central Florida’s inherent strangeness. Since its inception in 2015, the band has established itself as one of the most exciting Psychedelic Rock acts in Central Florida, toured throughout the South and Northeast, and was even recognized in 2018 as the local Orlando NPR Tiny Desk Contest Winner.
