Ho-Man Tin

Chinese composer Ho-Man Tin was born in Hong Kong, China in
1981. Growing up in 90’s, Ho-Man started his musical journey by learning
guitar, playing mostly rock and pop music. With his enthusiasm and
determination of developing musicianship, Ho-Man studied abroad in United
States and attended the Berklee College of Music, Boston. He received a
degree of a dual major program in both Composition and Film Scoring.
Immersing himself into an intense musical training, Ho-Man studied a
diverse range of genres and trainings, from traditional to contemporary, and
from composing to conducting. The musical and philosophical influences
from Ho-Man’s compositions teachers, Alla E. Cohen, Yakov Gubanov and
Vuk Kulenovic, are essential for him to strive for a synthetic and organic
quality in his concert music. Many of Ho-Man’s works were performed by
different ensembles such as the Luna Nova Ensemble, the Triple Helix Trio,
the Esterhazy String Quartet and the Kalistos Chamber Orchestra, etc.
Besides writing music, performing has always been a precious
experience for Ho-Man. He formed his own rock band while in high school,
playing all the musical events there. During the studies in Berklee, Ho-Man
has broadened his playing to Classical and Jazz music. Studying different
styles and techniques, with David Newsam from the Backbay Guitar Trio,
enables Ho-Man to open opportunities for performing in classical guitar
quartet recitals, as well as volunteered performances in music therapeutic
outreach program in Boston.
A childhood dream of becoming a film director actually enhances and
enforces Ho-Man’s abilities of writing music for visuals. The passion and
love for motion pictures helped him developed a sense of dramatic treatment
and narrative with music. Ho-Man’s studies in Berklee including wide range
of area such as composing, orchestrating, music editing, conducting and
other technological aspects in studio. He is residing in Los Angeles,
collaborating with filmmakers as well as enriching the experience of film
scoring.
