"Homebrewe - My Own Nemesis"

My Own Nemesis - Homebrewe

Homebrewe are an angry band of brothers plus a mate heralding from WA. Like Sugar Army, they produce high-energy rock music influenced by groups like the Foo Fighters, Queens of The Stone Age, et al.

After releasing a successful debut EP, the group have followed this up with an album titled, My Own Nemesis, which boasts eleven feisty rock tracks. “Best Thing” showcases plenty of heavy shredding guitars as singer/guitarist Kohen Grogan screams like Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale about the object of his affection being the best thing to ever happen to him. The interplay between the music and lyrics is certainly one interesting contrast to behold.

“Recession Aggression” is a product of the world’s current economic climate, a powerful angst-ridden anthem lamenting about the earth’s current state of inequity, not to mention the very human tendency of taking our spiritual homes for granted. “DEP” meanwhile, uses feisty bursts of ferocious energy, packing more punch into a single song than a world-class fight.

Elsewhere, “Smash” is what you’d get if you crossed Wolfmother with The Living End. And “Miss You” is like one of Incubus’ softer numbers because while Grogan may be a less erudite Brandon Boyd, Homebrewe still manages to pack a lot of oomph into the track raising it above a garden-variety love song.

“Earn Me” has single stamped all over it as it combines nice acoustic verses with a pure rawk chorus that you just want to air-guitar along to. Not to be outdone, “Sex All Night” combines lyrical subject matter to rival Kings Of Leon’s biggest hit. It has heady lyrics about easy women and hedonism plus a soundtrack that is similar to Lenny Kravitz’s “Fly Away”.

My Own Nemesis makes you want to scream in delight and throw your firsts into the air as its eleven songs are brimming with the kind of fiery artillery typically reserved for the world class rock acts that the group name as influences. Roadies, prepare the mosh pit - stat, because this will be one hell of a soundtrack for punters to indulge in with their newest thousand-odd friends. - www.thedwarf.com.au

"Hombrewe at Rocket Room, 29/08 Live Review"

Last night was the launch of the first single from My Own Nemesis, titled Miss You. It is a dedication to Kohen and Casey’s childhood friend Emma Robson, who died suddenly.

Something has happened to Homebrewe. Since they began playing live, they were awesome in terms of sound, and the lead singer’s acrobatics were entertaining, but now it is like someone has injected all the Grogan bros. and drummer Rory Keys with some much needed confidence when it comes to on-stage behaviour.

They have taken what they had and made it even better, they’ve got the audience eating from their hands, and they make it look simple! Their opening track Never has become more aggressive, more emphasised, more underlined, and already through the first track, the band had an actual mosh pit going, which continued till the end of the set. They were a little louder, a little more eager, active and put on so much more of a show than they have in the past and it is no longer a one-man effort. They are all equally comfortable in their own skins, and it is a joy to watch.

In only a few months, the Albany boys have grown up, and they are not that cute any more. Trade cute for mindblowing, and you have the recipe for success right there! - Fasterlouder.com.au

Bio

Australia’s newest produce Homebrewe are the young, energetic alt-rock foursome made up of three brothers and a best mate who are rapidly building a solid reputation for their electric live show. Having recently released their debut full-length album ‘My Own Nemesis’ to some critical acclaim in Australia and beyond including DRUM Magazine ‘CD of the Week’ as well as a swagger of exciting Live Reviews, this is a band to look out for.

Since Migrating to Perth from the small coastal town of Albany, Western Australia late 2008 to further their music career, the band has been moving from strength to strength. Having already supported some of Australia’s top acts; The Choir Boys, Children Collide and Gyroscope the band has also managed to sell out their own headline shows in some of the States best live venues.

Homebrewe have received national airplay at home on some of the country’s top independent Radio Stations including Triple J as well as some more commercial networks. The airwaves don’t stop here though; they are traveling as far as the USA and Europe. The bands debut album has managed to find US interest with it being distributed to College Radio by 272 Records/Distribution based in Hollywood and featuring airplay on over 180 stations nationally. The band has also received label interest in the USA with an offer made in 2010 by label BMR. Although the band declined the offer interest is mounting.

Tracks from the bands debut album and E.P have featured on a number of compilation CD’s including two WAMi (West Australian Music Industry) CD’s showcasing the best of WA music as well as two separate USA compilations put out by two separate labels featuring the best ‘Up and coming Global Talent’.

Homebrewe are a hard working, dedicated, exciting and energetic all out rock assault taking their live shows to 11. The members are currently writing new material as well as planning for a USA tour in 2011.
