Bio
Honey and the Heroine is a New Wave Rock band spawned from the underground counter-culture of Orange, California and is instantly gaining recognition for its distinctive voice and infectious energy. Ren (apprentice of DEVOs Mark Mothersbaugh) has a cooly-lit voice that seeps confidence as her melodies weave through the songs with almost jazz-like phrasing. Pete Fielis signature guitar-work has a musicality that sings along seemingly without effort, yet its emotionally urgent and real. Fielis and bassist Lee Norton have shared the stage together in other local bands and have formed a perfect music chemistry that they bring to H&TH. H&THs rhythm section hurls the listener forward with a controlled energy and creativity; the newest addition to H&TH, drummer Chuy Vidales (The Natural Thrill) jumps the band into a higher energy ring with his methodical rhythms. Nortons bass lines often play alongside Rens vocal and synth counter-melodies giving them a distinctive sound.
Their sound is reminiscent of the past without being derivative. Each song stands out on its own, but relates to the bands signature vision of being the Next Wave. As writer Carlos Fuentes astutely noted, There is no creation without tradition. For Honey and the Heroine they have grown up being influenced by the varied forces of the SoCal music scene and assembled them in a way that gives a nod and a wink to their predecessors.
Honey and the Heroine recently released their full-length debut album (Fall 2013) mixed by Jerry Andrews of ZonaSound have played to packed crowds as the opening band for national acts The Fixx and Berlin. Honey and the Heroine's music has been played on 102.1 fm's Homegrown Hour (San Diego's longest running local music radio show) and is the featured artist for the last week in November.
Musical influences include: Metric, QOTSA, DEVO and Garbage.
