Honey Bunches of Notes was started by keyboardist Dan Hopkins, and drummer Sam Sipos. The two met while studying music at Saint Francis Xavier University and realized that they had very similar interests when it came to music.

Sam had a strong background in hip hop and jazz, listening to artists such as The Roots, Jay-Z, Classified, Lettuce, and Break Science to name a few. This combined with Dan's back ground in Classical, Ambient, and New Age music such as Massive Attack, Portishead, the Mars Volta, and Hans Zimmer, created a unique experience in the way they approach music.

They're sound could be described as being energetic, while maintaining a laid back vibe. Their studies in jazz have enabled them to improvise arrangements of their pieces live, allowing for every performance to be a unique one.
