The Story So Far….
Lead vocalist, Giovanna Olvera, is half Mexican and half Italian but grew up in California listening to the sound of the sea and her grandmother's jazz and blues records. She studied music at seven different California Universities and funded her margarita habit by singing in coffee shops and working as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator.
Until last year you were most likely to find Giovanna playing the city pubs and summer festivals of Great Britain as front person for the band Little Game.
In her four year adventure across the pond, Giovanna supported the likes of Bryn Christopher, Mamas Gun, Martha Tilston and Piney Gir, and played at venues including Birmingham's famous Glee Club and the BBC Six Music Summer Sundae Festival. Live performances on BBC radio and the inclusion of her song "Struggle" on the 2007 Jaguar advertising campaign in Paris, France, now promises to propel Giovanna and her music to a new level of opportunity.
Since returning to her home town of San Diego, she has teamed up with several outstanding musicians from all over the world, and each one accomplished in their own right. Currently, she is working with the band Honey Drop who consists of Mexican American bass player, Andres Flores, San Diego native, Jason Andrews, and keyboardist Anthony Stevens who has worked with artists such as Gladys Knight and Erykah Badu. Together they get the crowd up & dancing with the perfect blend of neo-soul with a mix of old style mo-town, jazz, and blues.
