The Ryde Lament

Written By: Claire Robson

The Ryde Lament

I heard the streets call my name
Down in Ryde
As I turned to listen
I turned the tides

I got lost on Union
I heard the tides call me in
Pulling me seaward
As the hover blew in

The streets that I walk
Are hard as your life
The life that I lead
Is soft as night

I leave my skin to the sea
I leave my soul to the streets
Selkie or junkie
It’s all one to me

Lantern lights
Carnival town
Fires on Appley
Flicker and drown

I heard the streets call my name
Down in Ryde
But I never answered
Never replied

Carnival lights
Town by the sea
Shed my selkie skin
But you’ll never catch me

FYI Ryde is a seaside town on the Isle of Wight and Union is the main street going straight down to the hoverport. A selkie is a seal woman.

The horses will be waiting

Written By: Claire Robson

The Horses Will Be Waiting

The horses will be waiting
As the summer drifts our way
They toss their heads and they toss their heels
And then they race away
A spring moon sets by a badger sett
And the barn owl takes her share
And the farm cats prowl to the foxes’ howl
And up springs the moonlit hare

And the horses will be waiting
All the horses of my past
And they will canter down towards me
At the last

The horses will be waiting
As the summer weaves her spell
Pollen dusts their shaggy hooves
Draft and dales and fell
The clouds sail by in a cornflower sky
And the swallows swoop and dive
The hedgehog bustles in the high hedgerow
And everything’s alive

And the horses will be waiting
All the horses of my past
And they will canter down towards me
At the last

The horses will be waiting
As the summer falls away
And autumn walks along with me
Towards the pasture gates
The days drift by in a hazy guise
And a heady summer brew
But the fox’s eye is fixed tonight
And the autumn passes through

And the horses will be waiting
All the horses of my past
And they will canter down towards me
At the last…

Aisling

Written By: Claire Robson

Aisling

Aisling, my dear
Vision of my heart
A star that fell from sky
And lights up all our lives.
And it’s cold, cold, cold…
Till the vision burns from sight
Oh, Aisling
Aisling…

Now I love you, Aisling
And I will never forget
That vision to my heart
That I will never regret.
And you’re gold, gold, gold…
And the stars are shining yet.
Oh, Aisling
Aisling…

The stars shine ever bright
Showing me the night
And I watch you as you fly
Flying through my nights
And you sold, sold, sold…
My dreams right out of sight
Oh, Aisling
Aisling…
