"Honky-Tonk Rebel coming to Clatskanie"

The Clatskanie Arts Commission is pleased to present the third performance of its Sunday Series, The Honky-Tonk Rebel, on Sunday, May 15, at 3 pm at the Birkenfeld Cultural Center, 75 S Nehalem in Clatskanie.

The Honky-Tonk Rebel, Mario Carboni, is an extraordinary musical performing artist from Portland, Oregon. He specializes in an extensive repertoire of honky-tonk, blues, New Orleans jazz, country-western, early rock and roll, and boogie woogie, featuring two keyboards, a trumpet, a harmonica, and killer vocals. His shows are high energy, and his talent does not go unnoticed. He plays to his audience and can perform just about any song requested.

"I started playing piano at the age of 9 months," is what he'll tell you if asked, and since then he has performed over 3000 shows in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, and Arizona as a professional pianist and entertainer.

The Honky-Tonk Rebel has performed and recorded with Bakersfield's Red Simpson, legendary singer/songwriter who penned songs for Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakum, Alan Jackson, and Junior Brown. Last Labor Day, Mario and Red entertained a crowd of 500 in Portland. Mario also regularly works with Western Swing Music Society Hall of Fame drummer, Dennis Wall, opened for Wayne "The Train" Hancock last spring, and performed at the Alaska Salmonfest in 2015, which featured Emmy Lou Harris and Rodney Crowell.

He has studied with numerous teachers, including studying trumpet and piano at the renowned Oregon Jazz School at Mount Hood College.

Tickets are available at Hump's Restaurant in Clatskanie, by calling Elsa at 503-728-3403, or at the box office the day of the performace. Seating is limited so get your tickets early. Tickets are $10. Cash or checks only. - Clatskanie Chief
