Biography

From the beginning, HTK grew from the Bakersfield sounds of California. Lefty Frizzell, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Bob Wills, Ernest Tubbs and Gram Parsons.
Formed as an acoustic trio in May of 2009, The Honky Tonk Knights (HTK) have been playing multiple shows every week, digging deep into old country jems, 50's rockabilly, the bakersfield sound and jump blues. The band has expanded (space permitting) to a four piece electric act. Electric "HTK" features Steve Cerilli on rhythm telecaster and slide, Wil Cooley on Upright slap bass, Bill Cote on lead guitar & Jay White on drums. All members are seasoned players and vocalists sharing a common love for roots music and making people dance. The two guitar sound delivers entwined stereo rhythm, licks and leads around the solid slap & thump of the Cooley/White bass and drum foundation. New HTK originals are coming on a weekly basis and our debut recordings are slowly getting finished. Listen at: www.honkytonk.bandcamp.com

True Country

True Country by Honky Tonk Knights

Here's a rough mix of our tune "True Country" which is a story about a New Englander who journeys South to try to connect with the country music he loves. In Nashville, he meets up with an old timer at a bar who changes his perspective. The old timer explains that if music comes from the heart - it's real, no matter where you were born or what town you live in. It's just a state of mind.

TRUE COUNTRY

Booked a trip down to Nashville, Tennessee
To find my southern roots and drink the Yankee out of me
Stopped in a honky tonk to spend my dime
There I met an Old timer who shared these words over wine...

He said “So you think you can't be country” ..............
unless you carry a shotgun in your car
and have an unpaid tab at the local bar
and seven long necks are chilling in the fridge
and you've got your second cousin for a date
Pay your bills 91 days late
and have a Gal who airs your laundry on the line
and you've got 10 maxed out credit cards
and a rusted tractor in the yard
but if you want to be true country son it's just a state of mind

-------solo over chorus section -------

So I went back up to Boston feeling good
With a bottle of Rebel Yell, a straight six under my hood.
I polished my B Bender to a shine
but I won't forget that old timer’s words he shared over wine..

He said “so you think you can't be country .....
unless you carry a shotgun in your car
and have an unpaid tab at the local bar
and seven long necks are chilling in the fridge
and you've got your second cousin for a date
Pay your bills 91 days late
and have a Gal who airs your laundry on the line
You like drinkin’ brown booze, smoking grass
shooting at street signs as you pass
and making bets on lucky number nine
you've got 10 maxed out credit cards
and a rusted tractor in the yard
but if you want to be true country it's just a state of mind

solo over verse up to - chorus

He said “so you think you can't be country ..... (stop)
unless you carry a shotgun in your car
and have an unpaid tab at the local bar
and seven long necks are chilling in the fridge
and you've got your second cousin for a date
Pay your bills 91 days late
and have a Gal who airs your laundry on the line
and you've got 10 maxed out credit cards
and a rusted tractor in the yard
but if you want to be true country son it's just a state of mind
Yeah if you want to be true country Son it's just a state of mind.

My favorite company

Written By: Steve Cerilli (BMI)

my favorite company

I asked you for your heart
Promised to always be true
If there's one thing in this world you can count on
It's me lovin' you

Just can't get enough
I'm hooked on that Cherry wine
One touch of your hand and I crumble ___
everytime

Cause you're the best thing
That's ever happened to me
with this ring
Know you'll always be – my favorite company

My number one partner in crime
everything I dreamed of and more
if there's one thing in this world you can count on
it's me - at your door

Faithful as a southern breeze
I'll always be your candy man
I'll stick by your side till the heavens collide
that's my plan

Cause you're the best thing
That's ever happened to me
with this ring
Know you'll always be – my favorite company

I asked you for your heart
Promised to always be true
If there's one thing in this world you can count on
It's me lovin' you
