Bio

What does it mean to be ”Brooklyn” and “Hip Hop”? An “80s baby” might refer to the likes of Jay-Z and Notorious BIG, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, or Fabolous and Red Cafe. But as for the “90s babies”, there is no voice from their generation representing Brooklyn to its fullest - the confidence and charisma of a superstar, with songs that speak to all types of people, and lyrics that would have Hip Hop purists nodding their heads to the music. Consider “The Youngest Threat”: Brooklyn’s own HOOD HEFNA.

HOOD HEFNA is, and has always been, destined to carry Brooklyn’s Hip Hop torch. Born in Crown Heights on January 11, 1990 but raised in Flatbush, Kevin Paul is truly from “The heart of Brooklyn”. He was raised in a single-parent West Indian household with his Trinidadian mother and 6 other children. His childhood happened on the same streets as the older “Biggie” generation of the mid-90s, so it was inevitable that HOOD HEFNA would be influenced by the Hip Hop legend. But he was also influenced by other top artists of that generation, including 2Pac, Nas, Cam’ron, and Styles P of The LOX.

As early as 10 years old, HEF knew he would pursue a career in music and entertainment. In 5th grade, he was taught in music class alongside childhood friend Julito Mccullum (HBO’s “The Wire”). In 2003, HEF started recording for the first time with close friend King Bam, and soon after started a rap group with his friend Jamari (son of respected Queens MC E-Money Bags). But it was when he entered Coney Island’s infamous Lincoln High School that he made a name for himself and his music through his battles and street ciphers. But HEF would lose that momentum -- getting caught up with gangs and graffiti -- and would lose his focus on his true passion, music. That was shortlived, however, and he got back on the right path and transferred to Downtown Brooklyn’s Pacific High School. There, HEF was able to refine his skills -- whether it was a battle, talent show, or the lunchroom, HEF would always perform and entertain at a high level. In 2009, HEF was introduced to Brooklyn Hip Hop manager Gully (Cinematic Records) through their mutual friend Justo, and they immediately began working on HOOD HEFNA’s first 3 projects: “Diamond In Da Ruff”, “Almost Famous” and “Simple Game”.

HOOD HEFNA’s music has the ability to command the streets and the radio airwaves. With a combination of his lyrical prowess and charismatic delivery, HEF is one hit away from being the name every Hip Hop fan is talking about. And HEF’s support movement is strong and powerful, with the backing of Flatbush mainstays such as Sha Stimuli, Julito, Marz Money, Young Amsterdam, GQ Beats, Noxmen Committee, Teddy Da Don, Z-Thug, and Nefu Da Don (son of Hip Hop artist Queen Pen). “The Youngest Threat” is here and ready for a Brooklyn Takeover!

Go get Vol.1 “Diamond In Da Ruff” released in early 2011 and Vol.2 “Almost Famous” dropping October.
