Rick Woodward and Rick Seale have been playing and writing music together for twelve years. From their home base in Central Louisiana comes a great mix of original acoustic songs that show their combined multi-faceted musical influences. From Delta Blues to R&B and from Celtic to Contemporary Folk, the Hoodoo Papas play with drive and soul.
In July 2003, Rick Seale had the honor of being inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Master Folk Artists by the Louisiana Folklife Center. In August, the Hoodoo Papas song "One More Honest Partner" won first prize in the New Traditions Song Contest sponsored by Red River Radio and the Nacogdoches (TX) Americana Festival.
Rick Woodward: I feel the whole concept of the Hoodoo Papas is summed up in the idea of acoustic gumbo as a musical genre. I guess you could say the Hoodoo Papas is about creating a feeling of fun without losing the reality of life.
Rick Seale: The Hoodoo Papas represents a unique chance to witness the interplay between good musicians using a great medium of expression the acoustic guitar. We are a band reminiscent of the early delta musicians in that you dont know what were going to play next. As we always say, wherever we sit, theres a party.
