The best kept secret in music

The Hoodoo Papas describe their music as acoustic gumbo, and the Papa's latest release, Mojo Hat, certainly portrays that description. The 12-track offering is an appealing blend of musical influences spiced with traditional Louisiana soul. But it is the guitarmanship of the Hoodoo Papa's Rick Woodward and Rick Seale that is the "roux", the true base of the mix. One taste and you're sure to come back for more. - Mike McLallen
“after a few songs I already knew what to think: Just great!!! Your CD impresses me from beginning the beginning to end! No weak moments at all, every song is just great, rootsy as it should be, your music gives me a wonderful feeling, because I hear strong lyrics, beautiful guitarpicking, and very expressive voice . . . “
- Ray Pieters
“your simple but foaming music, a passionate mixture of blues, folk and swing: you have two good voices and a simple but whipping guitar style.” - Massimo Ferro
"A gratifying acoustic duo playing old country music (and)"back porch blues." Warm vocals and well tuned acoustic guitars . . . on this honest beautiful cd (Mojo Hat). Tastefully well done, enthousiastically performed." - Vicente Zumel
"Totally original . . . really awesome." - Rodney Harrington
"Thanks, Hoodoo Papas - Great show." - David Thomasson
"This cd (Mojo Hat) is one of the good surprises of these last weeks." - Jean Castro

Bio
Rick Woodward and Rick Seale have been playing and writing music together for twelve years. From their home base in Central Louisiana comes a great mix of original acoustic songs that show their combined multi-faceted musical influences. From Delta Blues to R&B and from Celtic to Contemporary Folk, the Hoodoo Papas play with drive and soul.
In July 2003, Rick Seale had the honor of being inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Master Folk Artists by the Louisiana Folklife Center. In August, the Hoodoo Papas song "One More Honest Partner" won first prize in the New Traditions Song Contest sponsored by Red River Radio and the Nacogdoches (TX) Americana Festival.
Rick Woodward: I feel the whole concept of the Hoodoo Papas is summed up in the idea of acoustic gumbo as a musical genre. I guess you could say the Hoodoo Papas is about creating a feeling of fun without losing the reality of life.
Rick Seale: The Hoodoo Papas represents a unique chance to witness the interplay between good musicians using a great medium of expression the acoustic guitar. We are a band reminiscent of the early delta musicians in that you dont know what were going to play next. As we always say, wherever we sit, theres a party.
