HOOK

HOOK

BandPopSinger/Songwriter

Hook are a quirky, loveable bunch of chaps and ladies from Canterbury Kent. Ask any Hook fan or band member and we are unlikely to tell you what style of music we play. What we know is, we appeal to all types of audiences and we always win em over.. with music, humour and a mutual gratitude!

Biography

Canterbury based Jo Hook started out performing solo, building a strong fan base in the South East, and recorded an album of songs called Inside Out. Jo has a lush, rich voice, a beautifully detailed guitar style and builds an amazing relaxed rapport with her audience.
“Best band I’ve heard all year, knockout songs, that had the audience begging for more – you’ve got to hear this band”
Richard Manning, Warrior Entertainment Group

Hook sees Jo’s vocals and guitar work complemented by the alternative beats of percussionist Becca Green, indie lead guitar by Jez Aitkens, thumping bass by Tudor Smith and soulful bv's from Emily and Hannah. Together they transform Jo’s songwriting skills into a blend of soul, pop , folk and indie rock.
Hook’s new album, Settle Down (release late 2005) builds on the last two EPs, Take Me Home and Square (2004) moving through a vibrant live feel, to a smooth, polished and professional sound. Musically, Settle Down is an eclectic mix of contemporary indie guitar, jazz flavoured pop, all with Jo’s distinctive singer/songwriting; intense, wry, quirky, vulnerable, cynical, hopeful – all with great tunes.

Crazy round here

Written By: Jo Hook

Crazy round here

My brain’s so full, so full that its bursting
Buy me a ticket, take me to someplace new
I was a child I used to use penknives
Now I am older what on earth do I use?
But I didn’t think it was easier then that its easier now
Buy you ain;t gonna get me round
And I didn’t think it was easier then than its easier now
And you aint gonne get me down
Its crazy round here

I was a child I used to do elvis up on the desk
Everyone stand and watch
Id don my blaziers and my school plimsols
Gel up my hair and practice a shaky dance
But I didn’t think it was easier then that its easier now
Buy you ain;t gonna get me round
And I didn’t think it was easier then than its easier now
And you aint gonne get me down
Its crazy round here

Mrz Zippy

Written By: Jo Hook

Mrs Zippy
She lives on the island
She swims in the streams
She's gathering roses
And pillows of dreams

And they call her Mrs Zippy
And they raised her on gin
Shes out guarding bar stools
To stop them coming in

But oh god, there must be someplace for the world
Who knows what the alcohol does to the girl
Lets leave her with fairies and all with be fine
the angels will save us in time

She has the longest of long hair
And the sweetest of smiles
Shes got sweet cherry cheeks now
From drinking all night

Kind comanche

Written By: Jo Hook

Kind comanche

Where are we now
We’re defences up and walls apart
Where are we now
Weve been asking this right from the start
All the love you had to ask for
All the love you had to dance for
All the love
All the pain and all the aching
All the fights and all the breakups
Oh my love, where are we now

Where are we now
You’re a cool blackfoot out in the fields
Where are we now
Im a kind comanche behind the wheel
All the love you had to ask for
All the love you had to dance for
All the love
All the pain and all the aching
All the fights and all the breakups
Oh my love, where are we now

Where are we now
It’s a holiday
Where are we now
We’re ok and everything is fine
Its impossible to tell my love
Where we will be in time

Where are we now
You’re a cool blackfoot out in the fields
Where are we now
Im a kind comanche behind the wheel
All the love you had to ask for
All the love you had to dance for
All the love
All the pain and all the aching
All the fights and all the breakups
Oh my love, where are we now
