Hooligan Eric

NYC based singer and songwriter Eric has been described as someone that is trans-genre. His sound is quite unique and he takes his life experiences, regardless of how depressing of experience, and makes it into something that will draw a few smiles. He believes in finding the humor is sad situations and his lyrics show that. He can be brutally honest and he can be brutally funny with his messages. “I get over certain situations with humor” he says. Eric can belt out a country song to a folk song or a pop song. “I think it’s extremely important that my lyrics depict how I honestly and truly feel. I can’t write soulless songs” Eric explains.

The fire ignited in Eric when his childhood idol, Selena, passed away when he was just seven years old. From that moment on, he knew he wanted to sing and perform. Born and raised in South Texas, he would perform at talent shows, birthdays, quinceneras and would sing Ricky Martin to Selena songs. “When writing my music, I don’t pay attention to certain genres. I do what feels good and do what my instincts tell me to do. I don’t like to rely on certain genres to get a certain sound” Eric says.

In early 2013, Eric started recording his first album with a producer in Brooklyn. Creating this album was very painful but relieving. “This album is all about someone that made me very depressed for a while. All these songs came from that” describes Eric. Taking inspirations from music he grew up on, ranging from Johnny Cash to Selena to Dixie Chicks, Eric recorded an album that is true to his heart…and humor.

Throughout 2013 and 2014, Eric began performing at legendary venues in NYC such as The Bitter End, The Pyramid Club, Ella Lounge and plenty more. It is only the very beginning but Eric will certainly be in your ear very soon.
