"Big City Breakdown 3: Hoosha Acoustic Video"

Big City Breakdown (BCB) is a bi-weekly video feature where local musicians are taken out of their typical performance element and placed at one of Miami’s outdoor hotspots as they present a song. The presentation will be shot in a single running take with no editing magic. BCB is an opportunity to showcase Miami’s best talent, highlighting their versatility without electricity, four walls, and other amenities of the bar and club scene.

We met Hoosha on Ocean Drive amid the art deco buildings and beach bunnies. The shoot was originally set for another location with shelter from the rain, but it stopped and the clouds moved out so we were inspired to change the plan. We shuffled over to a sun filled trio of turquoise beach chairs where the boys made themselves comfortable and did their thing.

It was a pleasure to witness Hoosha’s tight bare bones presentation, having seen them play two weeks prior electrified: guitar wailing, bass thumping, and drums pounding. You must see these three guys rock live before the summer ends! - Rev Miami

"Danny’s video interview with Hoosha at Titanic Brewery 11/6/09"

Danny Fernandez met up with Hoosha during their performance at the Titanic Brewery Friday November 6,2009. This is a monthly gig for them and you can be sure to check their myspace for their next performance there and elsewhere in the Magic City.
Take it away Danny:

This past Friday my lady-friend and I got to visit the Titanic Restaurant & Brewery in Coral Gables on 5813 Ponce de Leon Blvd. This cozy place was designed and decorated to resemble an old European pub with classic photographs, paintings, and articles of the historic RMS Titanic. The restaurant serves amazing food and is said to develop the best beer in all of Miami.

That night I witnessed two of Miami’s finest bands perform for the first time: Jacuzzi Fuzz and Hoosha. Jacuzzi Fuzz filled me up with musical bubbles and left my head bobbing to their great groove. Then it was Hoosha’s turn, its bass player Kevin Tomas caught my attention with his powerful slap-bass skills; Daniel Ferrer’s funky guitar riffing with the help of his pedals stole the song at the same time. Dani Munoz’s smashing drums added the hmph and rhythm to their jam set. I filmed one of their newest singles – “Say Goodbye” – from their Cheap Elevator Music EP. Enjoy the photos! - Rev Miami

"Funkin' Around With Hoosha"

Deep in Downtown Miami lays White Room, where a particular special event took place last Friday. Band after band took the stage, among them was funk trio Hoosha. Delivering their own unique blend of funk and rock, their sound heavily contrasts with the other bands, which focus on experimental electro sounds and heavy beats. Hoosha brings straight funk and their unique energy while their overall performance attracts a sizable crowd.

Kicking off with "Say Goodbye," Hoosha sets the tone for the rest of their set. Their style exudes laidback tones with high energy, and above all else, funk. Heavy bass lines delivered by Kevin Tomas, meshed with the vocals by Danny Ferrer keep the flow going. Dani Munoz, on drums, compliments his band mates perfectly. The trio works seamlessly, going from "Speak Easy" to "Too Much."

"You guys fucking rock," yells a fan in the crowd as Hoosha begins the final leg of their set. Only three songs in, and the crowd is engrossed. Finally starting up their final song, "Dog Show," they end their set with an epic jam sesh. Each member of the band completely immerses himself in the moment, ending their set with an incredible amount of energy.

Formed in late 2006, Hoosha has been performing around Miami for years. Originally a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band, Tomas and Ferrer met at Christopher Columbus High School and began to jam together and eventually came up with original material with former drummer, Stefano Rotati. In May 2009, Dani Munoz joined, completing the trio. Their name came from a crazy night with a bit too many drinks, but since then has just stuck.

Each member lists a range of influences so different from their counterparts that it is easy to see how their unique sound has come to form. Although primarily focused on funk, the group also brings a blues feel to their music. ?uestLove, Taylor Hawkins, Brendan O'Brien, Prince, Jeff Buckley, Jeff Beck, Metallica, John Paul Jones, Rage Against the Machine are just some of the influences on the band.

The band is now focused on compiling EP of seven to eight tracks, and plan to go on tour in the upcoming year. Until then, they will be playing at other venues in the Miami area.
