#2 HOOVES- Dear Nevada EP - CITR 101.9FM MHZ

"Høøves "Mooves Like Katty""

A couple of weeks ago I found this group called ‘Høøves’ on soundcloud. I was immediately amazed by their sound and their lead singers unique voice. The Vancouver girl group has four members: Josefa (drums), Paulette, her sister (vocals), Zarah (bass) and Brittany (guitar). They all met through a film class and also volunteering at a campus radio station.

After finding out that they got the same music interests they got together on jams in Zarah’s basement and began creating songs. Their first recording hours were a Christmas present from Zarah’s dad. That is where the band recorded “Mooves like Katty” & the other four songs that are on their soundcloud.

‘Høøves’ are currently waiting on Zarah’s return, to go on tour and record more songs. We are definitely going to hear more good material soon, so get used to them!
‘Høøves’, a band to look out for in the future. - Art Ave

"Hooves- Vancouver, British Columbia"

Hooves makes energetic, off-kilter punk rock. These four Vancouver girls combine lo-fi surf guitar with dynamic, theatrical vocals; their inventive songwriting style references the band’s musical influences but Hooves has a sound all its own. - Sled Island Music Festival

"Unicorns Barking: The sounds of Vancouver’s Hooves"

Trolling mighty fine music blog Winnie Cooper today, she had up rock and roll band from Vancouver called Hooves.

Her opening sentence started with “all girl group” and ended with “met at CiTR.” OK, I’ll click that link and have a listen. - The Morning After

"Getting Cozy With… Høøves!"

Hey!

We are Høøves. Four girls out of Vancouver, BC. Josefa (drums) and Paulette (vocals) are sisters, from Nova Scotia and Calgary. We met Brittany (guitar) in film class. She was playing Tetris. We were downloading music. Zarah (bass) literally painted and danced into our lives. We all spend most of our time volunteering at CiTR, the campus radio station, jamming in a basement, and playing rowdy, crowded little house shows.

Zarah’s dad gave her some recording time as a Christmas present, so we laid down a few of our little diddy’s and called it, “Dear, Nevada EP”, before she flew off to explore Milan for the rest of the semester. This summer we will be going on a small, long-haired, flower-filled, sun-kissed tour across Canada, maybe all the way to Halifax (depending on how broke we are by then). We are still defining our sound, I guess. We like to say, “Unicorns Barking” when asked, because no one knows what that sounds like, for no one but us has ever even seen unicorns, after all. Our influences consist of water in general (even the drinking kind), beach music in particular, nights spent biking around town hitting up the good local shows, ghost stories, Italian coffee, and mermaids. If we could go on tour with any one, it would probably have to be Joe Strummer without the rest of the Clash because we would be too easily swooned by Simonon’s motorcycle driving. - A Music Blog, Yea

"Hooves"

Hooves’ first EP, Dear Nevada, is required listening for the edgier kids in high school. The ones whose younger siblings might overhear Hooves playing in the bedroom next door and dip-dye their Barbies in glitter glue along to it. If bands were people, Hooves would be Madonna and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ youngest sister.

Equipped with throaty vocals, fuzzed-out pop guitar, and effectively spare drums, the band’s sound is already mature, delivering their complex dance songs with an assured ease. The song lyrics drift through subjects like writing a diary, wandering away from school, the stars, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and knowing what you want.
The song “Wolf Howl and the Church Bell” shows off the band’s range, with spiky guitar riffs dancing over a shadowy bass line and winding around psych-rock vocals. The band’s sound is consistently edged with a fun giddiness, which dissolves into almost 20 seconds of giggling at the end of the last track.
On its Facebook page, Hooves has been spreading rumours of an upcoming cross-Canada tour, which will likely be the sassiest road trip ever. - Discorder Magazine

We love west-coast, passion-filled, beach-inspired, good time music, and decided to make some noise of our own. We like to say, “Unicorns Barking” when asked what genre we play, mainly because no one knows what that sounds like.

Our influences consist of water in general, beach music in particular, nights spent biking around Vancouver, ghost stories, Italian coffee, and mermaids.

We bonded over bands like The Stooges, Thee Oh Sees, The Black Lips, and Tame Impala as well as electro- Canadian groups such as TRUST and Austra.

If we could go on tour with any one, it would probably have to be Joe Strummer without the rest of the Clash because we would be too easily swooned by Simonon’s motorcycle driving.

We love summer, and love long-haired, flower-filled, sun-kissed road trips.

Our name came from a ghost story.
