"Last Night: Hooves and Beak's Harp and Vocals Win Round 2 of Sound Off! Semifinals"

"When the winner of last night's Sound Off! Semifinals was announced, there was no doubt in my mind that the judges had chosen the right performer. Hooves and Beak--also known as Whitney Flinn, a self-taught harpist--captivated the crowd with her lilting voice and pitch-perfect harp. The night's only solo performer, she managed to exude confidence while sitting center-stage with what might be the world's nerdiest instrument. [...] But what really pushed Hooves and Beak into winning territory was Flinn's stage presence: she had great banter with the audience, cracking jokes about anything from the drinking age of the crowd to R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet. She seemed like seasoned performer, playing any Saturday night show at any venue, unaware she was in a battle of the bands." - Paige Richmond of Seattle Weekly

"From Crosscut: Sound Off! proves the kids are alright"

"Hooves and Beak, the stage name for self-taught harpist Whitney Flinn, finished second. She has perhaps the most unique voice in local music; while at first just a girl and a harp might seem like a gimmick, it's almost impossible to avoid becoming enamored of Flinn's music in a live setting." - Travis Hay of earcandybeat.com

Bio

I played piano as a child, taught myself the harp, and borrow guitars and banjos, whatever I can get my hands on. If I had to name one major influence on my music, it would be jazz singers and pianists. ella fitzgerald, billy holiday, george gershwin, art tatum. I used to practice singing by listening to jazz and imitating it. I come from the midwest, a small town in Kansas, things are a little different in Seattle. Moving to the Northwest has changed me. Life is a song, and we should all play along.
