How Miss Shorter has escaped public notice I'll never know. She has one of purest and subtly powerful voices of any contemporary vocalist I've ever heard, bar none. This is a must listen.

"Hope Shorter"

The first time we had the priviledge of seeing Hope Shorter was a moment when we knew this girl was truely gifted and had that thing MusicLoad calls "it". She was performing her song entitled "The Rain Don't Last Forever" in a street performance on the Third Street Promanade in Santa Monica, California. She was unsigned at the time. On a street filled with wanna be stars and people who generally keep walking, a crowd had formed around Hope and her brother who played bass. The crowd, mostly with their heads bowed and eyes closed all listened with intensity. That one song had that spine tingling impact that leaves listeners with tears in their eyes and spines still tingling. One just knows....... "Hit".

This photo was shot by MusicLoad a few days later at a packed house at Temple Bar in Santa Monica, California just weeks before Hope was signed to a major label recording contract with Atlantic Records, original home to many of the greatest musical stars of all time. Hope has remained practically underground as she is formulating her next recordings. We know that her day will come when she will be a household name around the world. Until then........

"Hope- Atlantic Records"

Los Angeles-based vocalist Hope song-cries with a humble, quiet-fire lucidity-- as autumnal as apple juice but as clear as the rain. Her voice, breathy and bittersweet, occasionally cracks Crow-esque, but is ultimately distinguished by an earthier, spiritual sheen that comes feathered in two shades of pain and survivor-guilt soulfulness. Any skepticism concerning Hope's sonic sorcery is purged once you lean into her sound's religion and let the lullabies wash over you like a promise. "The Rain Don't Last", Hope's new single, does just that. Insightful lyrics loom like some silent peninsula, over minimalist, acoustic-soul strumming. The mood here, while at first melancholic, soon shifts to... well...hopeful, as the recent Atlantic signee reminds us that while the sun may not always shine, it's best to just "let it go." Granted, the whole "chin up" theme has been touched before-- it's practically legal tender. Hope, however, manages to take the cliche and, in her breezy alto, make it sound like the blissful riddle to someone's math-encrypted void. Peace and piety seem only a mother's kiss away. [Will Dukes] A clear voice, a pure new sound, a petite musical messiahNo other name could be more fitting for the beautiful lady who has become something of a legend for music lovers everywhere. Whether its her gentle melodies that merge rock and soul, or sultry vocals over her acoustic guitar, her incomparable soothing voice says it all. Hope is like a breath of fresh air in step with the rhythms of life. Her harmony is so pure and her voice so sweet that it melts your soul. Hope is clearly a musical genius. When you hear her, expect musical boundaries to disappear. Her Debut CD -- Hope -- is soul-baring storytelling set to music at its best. Each song is a delicately crafted blend of lyrical imagery, sultry rhythms, pure vocals, and universal truths. As one of her adoring fans says: Hope is the searing voice of the collective imagination. Her subtle strength is her ability to capture the human experience and translate it into song. - Atlantic Records

Bio

A Clear Voice, a pure new sound, a petite musical messiah... No other name could be more fitting for the beautiful lady who has become something of a legend for music lovers everywhere. Whether it"s her gentle melodies that merge rock and soul, or sultry vocals over her acoustic guitar, her incomparable soothing voice says it all.

Born a twin and native of Poughkeepsie, New York her parents encouraged her to sing and study an instrument. She started playing the piano by ear at the age of only three and around five she picked up the guitar. Soon Hope started writing Songs. "Our Love's For Real" was the title of her first composition written on the piano. As she grew older Hope's love for music bloomed by her side.

After High school she was given a music scholarship to Atlantic Union College where she decided that music was something she'd prefer to study creatively rather than academically. Hope transplanted to California in 2001 and started singing at small venues. After a few months she decided to take her guitar and a notebook of her new compositions to the street, landing on Hollywood Boulevard! After two years of street singing Hope's song "The Rain Don't Last" was being played on LA's top R&B station "100.3 The Beat" By DJ PJ Butta and the word was out.

Hope was approached by nearly every major record label in the U.S. and in June of 2005, she signed with Atlantic Records. Hope has written and recorded with many of the industry's most acclaimed writers and producers including Will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas, Trevor Horn, Mikal Blue, Jason Reeves, Cara Diaguardi, Berry Mann, and Cynthia Billy to name a few.

Some of her most proud of accomplishments include touring internationally with the music icon Seal and opening for Grammy Nominee James Blunt. Hope's song The Rain Don't Last was chosen for the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Campaign, and she's had songs placed in several Major Motion Pictures including "P.S.I Love You", Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married", and "Step Up 2 the Streets"! Hope is currently recording her self-titled major label debut album with Atlantic Records, and touring colleges, clubs and venues worldwide.
